Were confederate soldiers terrorists?
cnn.com ^ | 4.11.2010 | Roland S. Martin

Based on the hundreds of e-mails, Facebook comments and Tweets I've read in response to my denunciation of Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell's decision to honor Confederates for their involvement in the Civil War -- which was based on the desire to continue slavery -- the one consistent thing that supporters of the proclamation offer up as a defense is that these individuals were fighting for what they believed in and defending their homeland.

In criticizing me for saying that celebrating the Confederates was akin to honoring Nazi soldiers for killing of Jews during the Holocaust, Rob Wagner said, "I am simply defending the honor and dignity of men who were given no choice other than to fight, some as young as thirteen."

Sounds like a good start to me.

I imagine it would. Hypocrisy is the hallmark of the confederate supporter.

Divisive rhetoric is Obama's specialty. He's the greatest divider of Americans since the Civil War. I believe that there's nothing this man would rather see than a weak, divided America.

More divisive than Lyndon Johnson or Richard Nixon? Maybe events will prove you right, but the country was a lot more divided forty years ago than it is now.

Nope. I'm from the North, and if there's any parallel, the North would be closer. The North imposed it's values on the South at the point of a gun.

I guess you didn't drink the Kook Aid. Refresing to hear.

Just gave you the answer you expected and deserve, Yankee.

You've repeatedly proven you can't engage in civil discourse.

Be gone!

That depends.

When did any Confederate entity blow up huge buildings and murder over 3000 people in one day?

Apples and oranges.

[or, ironically, a analogy filled with non-sequiturs]

A far, far better case could be made that Sherman’s Army were terrorists, quite literally. As far as the rare Confederate incursions into the North, there is overwhelming testimony to the courtesy and respectfulness of the Confederate troops.

You're kidding, during the invasion of PA in 1863, Rebel troops had to PAY the locals for extra provisions or face punishment! They had to convert their grey backs into green backs and pay the exchange rate to boot!

So what’s the body count threshold for something to be terrorism?

How come West Virginia is in that map of the Confedracy? They did not want anything to do with the slave empire. I thought the freedom loving Confederates just wanted to be left alone and didn’t want conflict.

That’s why it’s considered “apocryphal” but in every “myth” lies a kernel of truth.

CSA were not terrorists. The KKK were terrorists, and they were the armed wing of the Democratic Party.

Bears repeating. Anyone have a username on CNN who is willing to repost this there?

If Confederate soldiers were terrorist then that must mean that so were George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Madison and the founding fathers. It must further mean that in reality America is an evil place and most of American history must be purged. We must eliminate all vestiges and connection to these terrorist and evil Westerners who happen to be our ancestors.

Hopefully most whites aren’t that stupid but I am beginning to wonder because if one thing can make whites tap dance and run away and hide it is the issue of race. The Marxist know this and that is why that song is played over and over again. It is being used and has been used successfully to destroy this country and will only stop if and when whites ever stand up.

What’s it going to be whitey?
