I loaded OSX on a generic PC and was very unimpressed by its clunky, boxy, Linux like look. With red, green, yellow stoplight buttons on the windows? lol/ Windows 7 is a lot prettier. I used it for an hour then realized, that for all the Apple propaganda on Free Republic, “There is no there, there”

Maybe the iphone is way ahead of the pack but the latest grooviest OSX is a big yawn for this Windows7 user and early adopter (Betas)

Dennis, you would say that about Jesus Christ if he were born of Apple...

As a Linux user - I take the comparison to Apple (poorly) as an insult! Really though - beauty is certainly in the eye of the beholder.

With that said...

Windows - fixed look - you can change the background - you can change the color of the decorations - otherwise you are stuck with the way it looks.

OS-X - You get what Apple thinks is pretty.

Linux - A chameleon with 5 to 7 possible different window managers to choose from, thus every aspect of the environment is customizable. You can even have a raw terminal if that is ALL you want.

OS-X has a following. They also only have 3-4% of the market. Same is true for Linux. The majority of people who by Apple will buy nothing else. At least I can say that I have multiple Windows boxes along with multiple Linux boxes. (Not to mention my Droid phone ;-)

Windows 7 is a lot prettier.

And there you go. Microsoft has been hoping "pretty" will reel in users since it introduced the horrible Crayola color scheme in Windows XP. Unfortunately, pretty doesn't equal usable. OS X is designed to seamlessly help you do what you need and otherwise get out of the way. It's not pretty lipstick on a pig.
