One manufacturer, possibly Bostonian, sold a very nice looking black or deep cordovan oxblood wingtip made from some kind of man made material in the early 70’s.
A buddy had a pair of these, which we referred to as “plastic fantastic wingtips.”

A buddy had a pair of these, which we referred to as plastic fantastic wingtips. I remember seeing those, but don't recall who made them. They were popular with the NJROTC guys who were loathe to grab a can of black Kiwi, but the crusty old Master Chief always seemed eager to ding them during inspection.
I believe he considered the aroma of shoe polish and Brasso to be mandatory for anyone in uniform.
