Let's document here the numerous death threats the Left has made against us and right-wing politicians.
A few that come to my mind immediately:
The movie "Death of a President" (2006) by British film makers Gabriel Range and Simon Finch
Cindy Sheehan's Book: "Peace Mom" in which she fantasizes about going back in time and killing the infant George W. Bush.
Alec Baldwin's suggestion on the David Letterman show that Henry Hyde and his family should be dragged into the street and stoned to death.
Nicholson Baker's " Checkpoint," a novella conversation between two people about the advisability of assassinating Bush.
"Kill Bush" t-shirt on sale at CafePress.
The constant vandalism of ALF and ELF.
The movie, "The Last Supper," starring Cameron Diaz and others where a group of young, hip Libs invite to Conservatives to diner to poison them under the rationale that they are preventing a future Hitler. At the end of the movie, they come to realize that killing is wrong so they spare their last Conservative who then goes on to be the next Hitler. Moral of the story, kill Conservatives if you have the chance.
What else can you remember?
The media colluded with the DNC for the past several election cycles (the Abu Ghraib photo release, the forged National Guard memos, the Foleygate memos...). Collusion is beyond shared ideology. It is coordination of talking points and sharing “research”. At least 2 of these are “October surprises” designed to sway the elections. Gore boasts his 0.51% victory in the popular vote in 2000; how many points did Bush lose in the election eve disclosure of his decades old DWI arrest?

And then we have the words of Mark Halperin, from 2004, when he was head of the political news coverage at ABC News (he now holds this roll at Time-Lies Magazine):
(internal memo dated Friday October 8, 2004)
It goes without saying that the stakes are getting very high for the country and the campaigns - and our responsibilities become quite grave
I do not want to set off (sp?) and endless colloquy that none of us have time for today - nor do I want to stifle one. Please respond if you feel you can advance the discussion.
The New York Times (Nagourney/Stevenson) and Howard Fineman on the web both make the same point today: the current Bush attacks on Kerry involve distortions and taking things out of context in a way that goes beyond what Kerry has done.
Kerry distorts, takes out of context, and mistakes all the time, but these are not central to his efforts to win.
We have a responsibility to hold both sides accountable to the public interest, but that doesn’t mean we reflexively and artificially hold both sides “equally” accountable when the facts don’t warrant that.
I’m sure many of you have this week felt the stepped up Bush efforts to complain about our coverage. This is all part of their efforts to get away with as much as possible with the stepped up, renewed efforts to win the election by destroying Senator Kerry at least partly through distortions.
It’s up to Kerry to defend himself, of course. But as one of the few news organizations with the skill and strength to help voters evaluate what the candidates are saying to serve the public interest. Now is the time for all of us to step up and do that right.
ping!
Nice list
The links to the stories can be found in the FR articles. Ultimately old news links aren’t always reliable. Archives get moved and sometimes require a subscription/registration to access them.
I saw that. I hope FOX replays it all day.
Amen.
In 1981, there was an assassination attempt by John Hinckley, Jr. against President Ronald Reagan.
In 1975, followers of Charles Manson attempted to assassinate President Gerald Ford. Later in the same year, another radical, Sara Jane Moore, attempted to shoot Ford in San Diego.
In 1901, Republican President William McKinley was shot and killed by Leon Czolgosz, the radical son of Polish immigrants.
In 1865, Republican President Abraham Lincoln was assassinated by John Wilkes Boothe, a pro-Confederate racist. Wilkes was named after John Wilkes, a famous British radical of the 18th century.
Not included here is the assassination of JF Kennedy by Communist Lee Harvey Oswald, or the attempted assassination of FD Roosevelt by anti-capitalist Italian American Giuseppe Zangara in 1933 that resulted in the death of Chicago mayor Cermak and several others.
BTTT
Ugly list of ugly activity. The media blacked out such reports as a national news item in 2004 and 2006 as well. Treated them all as “local” news items.
Thugs are out there and the Injustice Department permits them to intimidate those who might not vote Rat.
From today.

They shot Ronald Reagan.
“Snipers Wanted.”
Don’t forget the attempted voter intimidation in Missouri by the St. Louis County prosecutor Bill McCullough and the St. Louis City prosecutor, Dee Hayes. They called themselves the Obama Truth Squad.
Quote from Post-Dispatch: According to the Post-Dispatch, St. Louis Circuit Attorney Jennifer Joyce, St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney Bob McCulloch, and Jefferson County Sheriff Glenn Boyer have joined forces to form the “Obama truth squad.” Joyce and McCulloch stated, “The truth squad’s plan is to identify false attacks and respond immediately ....”
They filmed in front of the Board of Elections, clearly trying to scare people off, trying to make it appear that you might be prosecuted for who knows what reason.
Clearly attempting to intimidate people. (Boyer wanted no part of it and denounced them immediately.)
“in which she fantasizes about going back in time and killing the infant George W. Bush”
But those sort of time-travel plots, usually involving Hitler never work. You end up killing Dubya, but then Jeb becomes president instead, and he’s even worse.
There’s also the reverse, where you try to save JFK. I guess that scenario would involve Sheehan stepping into the Florida recount and getting Gore elected. Only it turns out Gore was speaking in the World Trade Center when it’s hit, whereafter Lieberman becomes president and starts WWIII.
A Republican aide also pointed out that over the years Republican members of Congress received their fair share of death threats during volatile times. Newt Gingrich after the 1994 Republican revolution and the late Henry Hyde during the Clinton impeachment in 1998 both received numerous death threats. And just last month, Sen. Jim Bunning (R-Ky.) received death threats after his filibuster of unemployment benefits, according to a report in Roll Call.
