My husband and I have discussed ways to mitigate the punitive taxes that will be even greater next year. We have been saving like crazy and are thinking of "Going Galt" like the character in Ayn Rand's book, Atlas Shrugged. John Galt, an industrial leader, drops out of a corrupt and unjust system until it implodes. Anyone else thinking along those lines?
We cannot even get people to cancel cable & sat TV which gives them their power.
Sheeple like TV.
No American "owns" property as long as government can take it away at gunpoint for non-payment of "taxes."

No one owns their own home ...why just ask any county tax collector
YOU NEED TO READ THE BOOK oops sory for caps
We are working out a plan of attack right now. The idea is to starve the beast. There are some things that are easier to do than others.
For starters:
1. pay as little income tax as possible
2. pay as little outgo tax as possible
3. Purchase as little as possible.
My wife and I have 1 and 3 down pat in the following ways:
1. We buy as much non-food items as possible from Craigslist and garage sales. No taxes at all - so far. This avoids all sales taxes.
2. We use restaurants based on the 1950s paradigm. That is, we use them on RARE occasion. And, as of today, it just became significantly more rare.
3. We bought our farm in central Kentucky. We can grow, literally, ALL of our own food. Heck, we just slaughtered our first steer last fall.
4. For large purchases, use mail order as much as possible or go to a “no sales tax” state to make those purchases. It’s worth a little gas.
Part 2 is more difficult, but there is a solution. I make a low six figure income. However, there are tremendous MLM (multilevel marketing) opportunities. And the tax advantages are HUGE. You deduct every single mile you drive, discuss business at every lunch, combine business with every travel opportunity and get it to where, although you make a net income every year, it is as close to zero (while still being positive) as possible.
Then there are the tax advantages of becoming an employee of your business and your business owns everything you own from your car to your home.
Ive toyed with this stuff for a long time but, unless I want to admit that I am just all talk, it is time to take action. It is time to sacrifice as an individual. Our founding fathers risked not just their life and freedom, but also their comfort. Am I to be too afraid of losing what I have to even take the simplest of measures to fight this? I say NO, but time will tell...
I hope and pray that in time I am proven up to the task.
I’m going Amish and going Galt....In that order
I’ve been doing taxes all day. Say no more.
Costa Rican land values going up up up!
For sure. I can not abide a further government intrusion, especially on this massive of a scale. I’m a self-employed healthcare provider who will not be brought under this yoke. This decision would be painful for me to make as there are patients and employees who would be effected/inconvenienced by my personal choice.

“May even end up overseas”
I brought this up before Obama was elected and got sh*t for it.

Get in good with the rebels over there...;-)
Here's a nice site...not way out there fringe, but a LOT of common sense ideas.
We are blessed to have 8 acres, paid for, with a pond. The soil is lousy and we’re too old to be much good as farmers but I do think I’m retiring - less money for abortion funding. I will do a bit of this and that in my new county but we’ll live on social security and our modest retirement funds until hopefully we get an inheritance from the remaining parental unit. So gearing up to sell the town home and a rental or two (of course they will be taxed all over the place) and retire. Yup. Sounds good to me.
Getting debt free this year and putting together and order for foodinsurance.com, it’s oing to get bad in this nation. Hunt a hole.
Once the government takes over there will no longer be a need for charities.
That is a problem. Our property tax in the county just west of KCMO is over $3K a year.
Someone I know has a sailboat, and is just going to travel for a couple years. Has some money, etc.
