While downloading and installing (for my daughter) the free security suite offered by Cablevision to their subscribers, I noticed something which really annoyed me.
In setting up the configuration I chose to have the warning for objectionable sites activated. After I completed the configuration on all the aspects of the security suite I decided to go to the FR and see what was going on to begin the day. After typing the name in the search and punching go, I immediately was blocked by a pop up informing me that Free Rep was not available as it was a "hate site" and would require a password over ride. Amazed, I then entered "Democrat Underground" and after that "Daily Kos" and was allowed to navigate to those sites.
Those of you with Cablevision may want to do as I did and call customer service with a threat to cancel immediately all services if their parental control portion of the security suite is not immediately modified to remove FR as a "hate" site.
It never ceases to amaze me that some people think free speech is some sort of universal right that applies anywhere and everywhere.
Not everyone is capable of understanding the concepts of free speech and private property, which may be understandable in someone new to this site, but a mystery in a long-time member.
What is the relevance of attribution?
Afraid to say?
May the bluebird of happiness perch lightly upon your shoulder.
It appears I was right.
I’m sure you were right.
Netiquette. When you quote someone, netiquette dictates you credit the person whose quote you plagiarized, and ping that person if possible. But we shouldn't expect you to know anything about that.
My daughter enrolled in IQ Academy, an internet highschool to complete coursework. She was issued a laptop to use with the books and other material that we paid for. The security software on the computer would not allow access to Free Republic, calling it a “hate site”. Of course it would not let her look at department store sites either because they had ladies undergarments for sale there....
Was she permitted to visit the DU and KOS site” Cablevision would permit those sites while blocking FR.
:)
Yes.
Did God love the Amalekites?
