Microsoft today unveiled a public sneak peek of its newest browser, Internet Explorer 9 (IE9), aimed at Web developers and the technically brave of heart.
"The Platform Preview, and the feedback loop it is part of, marks a major change from previous IE releases," said Dean Hachamovich, the browser team's general manager, in a statement issued today before he took the stage at MIX10, Microsoft's Web developer conference, to publicly launch IE9.
Hachamovich promised that Microsoft would update the IE9 preview about every eight weeks, putting the first such update in mid-May with another to follow in mid-July. He did not, however, disclose a release schedule for the successor to 2009's IE8, the browser bundled with Windows 7 .
IE 9 Platform Preview is far from polished, or even finished, Microsoft acknowledged, which is why it has slapped the moniker on the release, a first for IE.
"While it loads and renders Web pages using the Internet Explorer 9 platform, it is not designed to be a complete Web browser," Microsoft said in a fact sheet that accompanied the preview's announcement. "This build is simply a first look at the work Microsoft has done so far and is ready to share with its developer community."
Missing from the browser are critical user navigation tools such as the address bar, as well as security features like the SmartScreen anti-malware filter and IE8's private-browsing mechanism.
To give Web site designers, application developers, and others who want to track the new browser's progress a chance to try IE9, Microsoft has created what it called a "Test Drive" site that showcases the features and enhancements included in the preview.

What’s an Internet Exploder?
3.6 is out.
I LOVE firefox.
The dialog comes up for every user on the machine the first time they bring up IE8. Like I said, probably not annoying if you’re just running 1 or 2 machines, if you’re running 2 dozen with half a dozen images apiece and you see that popup 200 times in 2 weeks, and it’s always coming up while you’re trying to accomplish something else (like getting more Windows updates) it becomes VERY annoying.
I don’t want to spend a lot of time customizing my IE, I want it to get out of my way. And actually customizing something too much makes for an invalid test environment, if I change a default and our app works with my setting but turns out to not work with the default I just failed to discover a big bug that’s going to hose our clients.
I’m not arguing that a browser shouldn’t warn you about downloads. I’m pointing out that for quite a while IE didn’t and you can still configure it to not. IE WILL download and install stuff without you EVER knowing.
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA
You put up MS tests up to prove that IE is the fastest?!
BWAHAHAHAHA
Sorry bub, independent testers agree, IE8 is close to the slowest.
Give it up. All you’ve got is insults.
Ummm..that's exactly what you were doing. Go back an read your own posts.
” Im pointing out that for quite a while IE didnt and you can still configure it to not. “
Changing your story now huh? Figures.
“Sorry bub, independent testers agree,”
Here is the most independent test for ya, from NSS LABS no less.:

It's not even close. Chew on it. Meanwhile, feel free to surrender anytime you want.
I didn’t change my story at all, there’s a very important part of what I said you keep editing around:
and is only necessary because IE is hotwired too tightly to the OS so it can install rogue programs without the users knowledge.
THAT’S the problem.
Ummm.. I just gave you TWO links in my last post, that instruct you on how you can disable Internet Explorer 8 welcome screen for all users if you are installing on multiple computers. That is something every credible sysadmin would know. You didn’t even know that, yet claim you manage a bunch of PC’s. I’ll repost the links here again:

More from MSDN:
I just quoted my post earlier, I did not change my story.
Yes I saw your links, and I told why I wouldn’t do them. I didn’t even get into the fact that they’re registry hacks, good ol’ MS and their love of registry hacks.
You were trashing IE8 for asking security questions.
Then in your latest twist, you turned round and swore that you never did that with this laughable lie:
“Im not arguing that a browser shouldnt warn you about downloads. Im pointing out that for quite a while IE didnt and you can still configure it to not”
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/chat/2472395/posts?page=46#46
That is the EXACT opposite of what you were saying before.
Say, how old are you anyways? 5?
It's what sysadmins are paid for.
“I didnt even get into the fact that theyre registry hacks, good ol MS and their love of registry hacks.” All you have done so far, is regurgitating mindless anti-Microsoft taking points from the internet, without even knowing whast they mean.
Sounds to me like you don't have a clue about anything, let alone registry hacks.
Not all the stupid questions are those downloads. IE8 has plenty of stupid questions to go around, stupid questions about trusted sites, stupid questions about filling out webforms, stupid questions about touring IE8 which the more I play with it the more it seems to come up not once total but once a day until you actually go through the tour or hack the registry (I just got it to come up again on 3 machines just by opening IE8 for the first time today).
YOU brought up the downloads question, not me. I, as you just quoted, didn’t say anything about specific questions in post 8. IE8 is a stupid question machine.
Registry hacks are annoying. And people shouldn’t have to use them to get rid of a stupid dialog.
I don't see no questions for trusted sites or web forms. Not even ONCE, have I seen. haven't seen any such questions in the over 2 years of constant IE8 use of several hours a day, over all kinds of web sites.
Now why don't you give me even one REAL example of rampant questions that IE8 asks, which are not related to file downloads or program installs?
Gee that’s funny because I just went into a login website with my IE8 and logged in and BAMMO up pops the Do You Want Internet Explorer To Remember This Password dialog, part of the AutoComplete feature, here’s what IE8’s help says about it:
Fill in website forms and passwords automatically
You can use AutoComplete to store passwords and other information that you type into web form fields. When you turn on AutoComplete, Internet Explorer will automatically fill in the fields you type into web forms frequently, like your name and address.
So you’re telling me that in two years you’ve never once had AutoComplete turned on? Even though it’s on by default? Really. Sorry bub, but you’re rapidly crossing the line into being a full fledged liar.
Thats what techies and sysadmins are PAID for. You claim to be one, yet don't seem to have a clue.
” And people shouldnt have to use them to get rid of a stupid dialog.”,/i>
Its not for “geting rid of any stupid dialogs”. You are the one that first of all claimed that IE8 came up with a “annoying popup” for an IE8 tour after installation. So I gave you the links which instructed you on how you can disable Internet Explorer 8 welcome screen tour for all users during installation. It was for disabling the initial IE 8 TOUR(which you can skip with the click of button anysways). Get it?
You did huh?
Are you the same guy that SWORE at the start of this thread, that you DON'T use IE8, and that after installing it after it came out, you removed it from all your computers?
