I found this out researching the book I wrote. On a History Channel feature they showed Gen. Stand Watie & his confederate troops in what they thought was typical ‘Indian’ dress. Watie’s troops were very professional, with uniforms....until near the end of the war. Then they wore rags or Union uniforms they had captured from supply trains.
