Stupid city person question here: Can hens lay eggs without roosters being around? I'm serious (series) here, I really don't know.

They can lay eggs, just not hatch 'em. Think about it. ;^)

Yes, they just lay unfertilized eggs. No babies.

Yes! Only need roosters if you want babies,not just for eggs.

Roosters are useless feeders unless you’re wanting to breed your own chicks.

Once a hen reaches maturity (about 9 months old) she lays an egg once every 72 hours or so, whether she is fertilized or not.

It’s just like a human female releasing an egg every 28-30 days, but with a quicker turnaround time, LOL! (And hens aren’t so crabby about the process!)
