One of the finest comedy movies ever made was the Mel Brooks classic Blazing Saddles. Its a cult classic thats still aired on TV today. The films dialogue is riddled with racist, sexist, bigoted speech. The N word is used 17 times. Yet, 36 years after the films debut the N word is bleeped whenever its broadcast on television. It isnt because the movie was insensitive to racism in 1974. Quite the opposite. The bigotry is an intentional punch line at the expense of the bigoted. Sensitivity to mere words has neutered an extraordinarily important commentary on race in film.
Mel Brooks, like so many entertainers of his era made his living skewering racial, religious, ethnic, and social mores. Brooks, a Jew, was quite fond of poking fun of his heritage. His movies have lampooned Hitler, Nazis, and the Holocaust. It makes the N word seem like Sesame Street.

I left out Take The Money And Run.
Thank you...
How about Zelig? That was one of his funny ones. Pretty funny too.
Olson Johnson: [after Gabby Johnson’s speech] Now who can argue with that? I think we’re all indebt to Gabby Johnson for stating what needed to be said. I am particulary glad that these lovely children are here today to hear that speech. Not only was it authentic frontier gibberish, it expressed the courage little seen in this day and age.
The early All in the Family episodes are some of the funniest shows that have been on television.
The later ones with the kinder, gentler Archie were just typical mundane sitcom pap.
TV Land has been showing the reruns for the last several months. They have now made it into the late 70s shows (boring) and I’ve quit watching. They don’t censor any of the language though.
Richard Pryor wanted the role of Bart but Warner Brothers forbid it. Cleavon Little did a better job in any case, but still interesting that as early as 1972, Pryor was too controversial to open a comedy.
After Edith Died Archy turned into a flaming liberal. Was Edith an evil influence on him?
Never saw it, vaguely remember hearing about it.
I recommend it.
My favorite photo of the movie...too funny.
I thought “The Frisco Kid” and “Team America - World Police” (the uncut version) were pretty good.
Still true today! LOL!
I found a Bit Torrent of it......Disney can try all they want to suppress it, but it is still out there.
“Hello Boys”
Bart: [on grandstand to the townspeople] Excuse me while I whip this out.
Work, work, work, work....
