Dear FRiends at Amy’s Place,

Update on the mission to Uganda: my second cousin Sydney arrived safely, after going to London, being diverted to Amsterdam due to the British Airways strike, and then on to Uganda. They stayed in a nice hotel in the city they landed in, and then were bussed to the mission. So far, so good.

Sad news on our farm, as our dog Bailey, who was diagnosed with dialated cardiomyopathy October 30th, passed away on Monday. His team of vets, led by his very own cardiologist, did wonders for him and he had a spunky 4 months and just this month began to not respond as well to the medications.

We rescued him when he was one year old, and we are in the process of finding another rescue doberman, since we have a vacancy. We like to have 2 dobermans, an heir and a spare.

I wonder if you all could help me pick out a name for a male doberman. The one we are most interested in has a strange and girlish name. He is young and won’t mind if we give him a manly name, should we be able to adopt him.

We have already had dobermans with the following names: Hans,Forrest,Bailey and Bart who is 4 and will be getting a new doberman brother as soon as we can arrange an adoption.

Thanks, TCP

TCP, so sorry to hear of the loss of your dog, Bailey! Its so hard to give up a loving, faithful friend and the best friend we can have is our dog. You were asking for manly-like names and I have a few suggestions. My last Sheltie, even though she was female was named Cagney. We got her from a family when she was a puppy. The couple had one little child and was expecting the second and felt they couldn't handle a growing playful puppy.

I didn't ask but wondered why the name Cagney. Then I thought perhaps Cagney and Lacey, but I couldn't get James Cagney out of my mind either. So Cagney would be a good name for a male even though our female had the name!

A few others Lewis or Louie, Charles or Charlie and I like Spencer for a male dog. These are but a few I thought of and if I think of anymore, I will tell you! Do you like Sam?

I am so sorry for the loss of your dog!

Torey the Dog passed on Feb 11th, just over a month ago.

How about “Spike” or “Zeke” for the Dobie? Those are pretty “Manly” names. :-)

So sorry for your loss, TCP.
Am glad that you got those extra months.
A new doberman .... how about Nelson?

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind. They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....
