Japan was no more able to strike the West Coast than a bunch of Arabs would be to strike New York City.You're right about that. In 1942 Japanese sub lobbed some shells onto the shore of what's now Isla Vista, CA (right near Santa Barbara). Nobody hurt, but everyone scared.
