Vancouver Olympic Games- A Big Bow To Multiculturalism With Silly Dances From Assorted Tribes
February 12, 2010

Posted on 02/12/2010 9:29:44 PM PST by Steelfish

The first Act I of Scene I from the Winter Olympics featured a dozen or so silly if not nondescript Tribal Dances from a variety of Native American Tribes. This is not meant to be an attack on the tribes themselves. But could'nt there have been a presentation whereby they were all presented as one seamless garment under one flag?

Then they read a native American poem. It seems like the north American Olympics always play up natives out of a sense of Caucasian guilt.

And, the transgendered and lesbian communities were represented by KD Lang.

Worst opening ceremony, ever.

I couldn’t agree more. This is tokenism at its finest. I bet there not one native representing Canada in any event, Not one.

Haven't you heard of ‘Dialect Materialism’?
It is from struggle of divided interests that propels historical progress. Therefore, to be seamlessly presented under the color of one flag, would be counterrevolutionary! Get with the program.

You make an excellent point- the “tokenism” itself should be viewed as an insult to any self-respecting people.

Really cheesy ceremony. Part Riverdance, part Devil Went Down to Georgia, part Cirque du Soleil.

Exactly- since when did Totem Poles become symbolic of any part of western civilization. What next?

“And, the transgendered and lesbian communities were represented by KD Lang.”

She’s obviously from the BoyNamedSioux Tribe!

I liked the tribes. I also liked the “sky” screen, for instance, the northern lights and the whales. The Fiddlers were good too - I know Canada has a lot of traditional music.

But the rest of the ceremony I didn’t get. Especially the guy running in the plains. Is that what people do on the Canadian prairies? Play Peter Pan?

No, I really hated the Chinese one. I knew they had to torture people to get them to do those huge presentations.

They had a guy from N Korea in charge of keeping those people in line. You know how he had to view things.

I thought it was entertaining and not as annoying and strange as some recent opening ceremonies.

But I HATED that Lang weirdo singing what is otherwise a lovely song.

I’ve only half-watched it so far. It was like watching ARCS, or Rural AK t.v. (for bush folks), lots of native dancing....which I must admit does have its charms...but one can only take so much of fan dancing. I’m recording it so I can fast forward when needed.

Lang should have just whipped out her strap-on for the missing fourth pillar they needed tonight for the torch ceremony.

My daughter was watching this and asked me: “where are all the indians daddy?” all I could say was that they were at the nearest bar. Representing them as noble savages offers an insight into the liberal mind. Offering them up as pure spirits untouched by the white man’s hand yet in reality they are wards of the state shacked up in modern plantations we call reservations. After 40 yrs of welfare and untold billions in aid and assistance, all they could show for it is rampant alcoholism, abuse and neglect. Yup that is the liberal mind at work.
