Remember the town in Vietnam that, they said, had to be destroyed in order to be saved? Something like that applies very well to figure skating, a sport with a judging system was so corrupt that changes had to be made. Unfortunately, instead of trusting that they could change the judges, they changed the whole system, and thereby destroyed the sport's popularity.

I almost cried when they shot her in ‘Ronin’.
You folks have to see the film “Blades of Glory.”
I will leave it to your judgement.
I remember Sonya Henne!! My older sister had Sonya Henne paper dolls and when she was gone I would sneak and play with them! I wanted those outfits so bad and was sure I would be an ice skater despite the fact I lived in South Texas and never saw any ice or ice skates! Sorry, Josie if you’re reading this I played with your paper dolls. Thanks for the memory!
I cried when she appeared in Playboy! /evil-leer
You are correct; Having your competition physically assaulted is not good sportsmanship - it’s a felony!
“Of course, to a lot of Americans who think 350-pound slugs momentarily grappling at the line of scrimmage is the essence of athleticism, figure skating, with music and sequins to boot, just isn’t a real sport.”
Hrm. You don’t win an allies through hypocrisy. The author doesn’t even SEE his own hypocrisy in the SAME SENTENCE.
Sheesh.
No comment on what I said? Ok.
Years ago I saw one of her films on TV.
I do not know much about the Nancy Kerrigan Foundations, but I have heard others praise it.
Actually a Reverse 6.9
Yes. Kerrigan was not very nice. And as a skater she bored me. Graceful yes. Exciting to watch? No.
My favorite female skater was/is Sasha Cohen. It's a shame her nerves got the best of her. Not sure what her status is now. One of the most beautifully graceful skaters ever IMO.
Actually, she’s ahead of my time too ... by quite a bit.
Point being is that ice skaters have to do the drills and also have a free style program.
Yeah. And my daughter just said “She’d be doing great and just all of a sudden screw up”. It is a shame. I have enjoyed watching Yamaguchi and Baiul too.
No, I don't. Did Dan Blather report that "fact"?
She had no reason to be a gracious loser, she was robbed. She was ahead of Baiul after compulsories and they both skated so-so long programs with an equal number of mistakes. She was cheated by the scorers out of the gold.
Katerina Witt, more than anyone, is responsible for the change. Her 1988 gold medal was totally based on her popularity and beauty. Lame and bandaged, she was decidedly inferior to Elizabeth Manley in Calgary.
