do what I did, just get a new comp with Win 7 on it. It already is much better
Best ten bucks you will ever spend.
“avoid vista and 7.”
May have been a good call.
Perfect answer.
because vista sucks and 7 does not?
Interesting how Microsoft stirs up comments. Hmmmm.
I’m a constant computer users. I had Vista on one machine (laptop, came on it) with no problems. Upgraded to 7 and found it significantly faster. Loads faster, runs faster.
I have installed 7 on two new desktops and they work very well. Since Vista attracted so much negative press, there must have been problems. I find it hard to argue that 7 has any problems past the fact that some software and some drivers will not work in 7. In fact, I have one hardware item that states on the box that it “works with 7” when in fact it doesn’t and the mfg can’t (or won’t) tell me when a 7 driver will be available. Small price for a fast, stable operating system.
Finally, if Bill Gates ever comes to our town, I have promised to go punch his lights out for all the hours and hours I have spent over the years trying to make SOME of his software do what it should do. It’s a relief to finally get some that does work.
“AND DONT GET ME STARTED ON THE RIBBON BAR IN OFFICE!!”
Someone is asleep at the wheel. The refresh button on IE is across the screen from navigation button with no option to customize the toolbar. People are stuck with the ribbon with no option for a “classic” view.
I understand the need to try new stuff, especially to get the younger audience hooked. However, the older audience buys the damn software and they don’t want change. The like it when the the features don’t migrate all over the place. It would not have been hard to incorporate a “classic” view.
Oh, yeah. XP is awesome. Till I upgraded to SP3. Then my firewire card stopped working and MS knows about the problem but won’t fix it. I also reverted to SP2 on the advice of some forums but that didn’t work. The problem has been traced to system file that MS put in SP3.
I like the computer I have. Why buy a new one to get Win 7 when I’m just going to wipe the drive and install Linux?
It’s the first Windows Upgrade I’ve liked since about 1996.
And I work (ahem) very closely with these things.
Make sure you have max memory.
Stability is very good. Boot and shutdown times are great. UI is fine and somewhat better. Speed seems better than Vista.
All in all, it’s a very good O/S.
But it is always a hassle to upgrade an O/S. So, weigh the advantages I think exist against the several hours of work its going to take to get you where you want to go.
Maybe I'll see if I can scrounge a copy of XP somewhere. I think iTunes still runs on it.
You realize that you can place your cursor between the URL box and the search box and drag the center divider over to the left if you want it closer. Although on my IE the navigation icons are under the place where the refresh icon is.
Choosing small icons helps a little.
True; I had a crappy $300 E-machines and just replaced it with a newer, hopefully better $300 E-machines... :) (320GB)
I forgot. You can also simply hit F5 and it will refresh.
Other than the cost there is no reason to avoid the upgrade. Windows 7 is superior to Vista in all ways.
Because Windows XP does everything just fine and I won't change
until I have no other choice ;)
