Does anyone watch PBS? I know, without taxpayer funding it would have went out of business long ago. But back to the point: During my typical hours of insomnia as I was channel surfing I saw a program about President Lincoln and his speech at Gettysburg. So I left it there and watched for a while. And who do you think is offering the wonderful opinions as to what really happened during Lincoln's presidency? Non other than that stupidly acting, famous breaking and entering, affirmative action professor Henry Louis Gates JR. I could not believe the lies he was spewing. He offered that the reason that the North finally won the war was due to the inclusion of black soldiers. I never heard or knew that there were that many black soldiers (there were not). And I thought it had something to do with Sherman's march to the sea and destruction of the south (silly me). Then, a few minutes later the lying Professor is speaking with non other than old slick willie himself. Gates throws out a real doozie when he tells Bill Clinton that during Lincoln's inauguration for his second term, the majority of people attending this event were black people!!!!!! Clinton responded with " I've never heard that before". Well slick willie, of course you have not heard that before, because it is a lie! Just because Gates says it is so does not make it true. After those comments and seeing the revisionist history that is going on with P BS I had to change the channel. Leave it to the leftist's to re-write our history to play up their agenda.

Just wait for Gates’s take on WW2: We ended the war by dropping the big one on Pearl Bailey.

Blacks and their liberal suporters are attempting to create a history for them. “Take a lie, make it big enough, repeat it often enough, and people will believe it.”- Josef Goebbels circa 1934

Wonder how Gates handles the fact that Lincoln was in the process of trying to find another country where all the blacks in American could be rounded up and taken to?

I agree that Gates' claims are spurious, to say the least.

By the way: That should be "none other."

I didn't see the program but I saw an ad for it, which featured another black man (presumably a professor somewhere) saying something to the effect that Lincoln supported slavery.

There is a disposition on the part of some black scholars to give Lincoln minimal credit for ending slavery. I guess he was supposed to wave a magic wand (as Ellie Light would say) and end slavery everywhere on March 4, 1861, and he should be chastised for having failed to do so.

I never heard or knew that there were that many black soldiers (there were not).

2,213,363 men total served in the Union Army, according to official records. Some minor percentage of these were the same guy, as bounty jumping was popular towards the end of the war.

About 180,000 of these men were black. That's slightly over 8%. If I remember correctly, it's also about the total of the entire CSA Army in the last month or so.

Given that the considerable majority of black men were not domiciled in locations where Union recruiting offices were readily accessible, it's a very considerable number.

For a whole host of reasons, they did a much smaller percentage of the fighting and dying then the white Union soldiers. Most entered the Army towards the end of the war.
