I like my Ruger Mini-14.....
This should be fun.
If you are going into the Russian forrest with the possibility of running into a brown bear, I would suggest an RPG-7V, or an DsHk.
You better make damn sure they’re legal. You get caught with an illegal machine gun in Mexico and you’ll be in prison for twenty years. It may be the same in Russia.
Buy everything you can afford :-)
forest.
Springfield Armory SOCOM [civilian M-14 w/ 16” barrel]. Comes in .308 [7.62mm NATO], and DOESN’T fit description of Assault Rifle.
SOCOM M14 - that’s my dream gun.
I have both and will comment. Run of the mill AK rifles are not that accurate compared to AR rifles. I once outshot a Dragunov at 200 yards with a replica rolling block .45-70 rifle! For accuracy, go with a AR-15. For pull it out of the mud and shoot, go with a AK.
As any good journalist will tell you, an "assault rifle" is any firearm which fires ammunition.
Personally, I’d go with a Barrett M107.

Oh, it’s on the up and up. My wife’s cousin is a Militzia officer and in the reserves, so we’re going with him and his cope and army friends. I will get a load of trash talk, it should be incredibly fun.
I like my AR's and haven't had any issues with them. I've been thinking about adding an LR-308 to my collection so that I'd have a bit more grunt if I need it.
Ruger Mini-14 is a good alternative. If you like the AK platform, you could just stick with that.
For home defense, stick with either a handgun or consider a shotgun. Rifles are noted for over penetrating. You don't want to shoot through the bad guy standing there in your bedroom doorway at zero-dark:30 and end up plugging your neighbor as well.
Just added “banglist;bang” to the keywords.....that should bring the experts in.
buy a used one don’t go thur a dealer no P.W.
For hunting, SAVAGE makes [may be out of production], a “scout Rifle” [.308, bolt operated,18 or 20” barrel, forward scope mount] which is reasonably priced. If you’re gonna be where the big bears are, go with a .300 to .338 magnum, a .375 H&H, or a Marlin Guide gun [lever gun with 16 or 18” barrel] in 45-70.
Thanks for the correction, I never remember which it is.
They are a good value for the buck and reliable. You can also find a tremendous number of accessories to buy for it.
By the way. Keep the alcohol for after the days hunting and shooting! :-)
As a former prosecutor, and as a gun owner in NY, neither the Feds nor NY have caught up with the journalists. It’s not an assault weapon.
