You’re not kidding. I had a job offer out of college as a sales representative for a printing and graphics company that did/does a lot of fedgov business, offices on K Street. In the mid-late 80’s, a starting base salary of 33k plus commission didn’t sound bad at all to this NC boy.
Flew up and interviewed at their expense. Everything was great, they made an offer. Then I started researching the cost of living. I’d have been poor, even then. So, I declined the offer.
