This little aircraft is amazing. I've gotta get one!

But I can definitely see some privacy abuses if owned by a possessive girlfriend or wife (too bad Elin Woods didn't have one, though)!;-)

I always like to see technology that can be used by someone to invade your privacy or aid in terrorist activity.

My first thought was, “I wonder what kind of a payload it can carry”.

Two micro Hell-fire missiles, aka three matchsticks glued together.

From the Parrot website, this drone is "open source"...

Dear publishers & developers,

In January 2010, we unveiled the Parrot AR.DRONE, the first ever flying Unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) with Augmented Reality.

A DRONE HELICOPTER EVEN A CHILD CAN PILOT!

For the first time an affordable helicopter will come with stabilized fly model, making it so easy to pilot even a child can control it.

Thanks to its Microelectromechanical systems (MEMS), Digital Signal Processor (DSP), Inertial measurement unit (IMU) and sensors, the Parrot AR.DRONE turns complex fly patterns into an easy-to-pilot system.

Children will pilot AR.DRONE instinctively, using the iPhone, without any learning curve. This allows for an incredible fly experience and acrobatics.

A GAME CHANGER FOR THE WAY VIDEO GAMES ARE PLAYED INDOOR & OUTDOOR

While the iPhone will display the HUD, controls, animations and sounds, the Parrot AR.DRONE will fly around you. Stop moving your iPhone and the AR.DRONE will stay put, steady, balancing its engines to fly as well as a hummingbird.

The AR.DRONE can play solo games with Augmented Reality, reliying on 2D or 3D gametags in the real world to create virtual tracks or display virtual ennemies.

Even better, a multiplayer demo experience is built-in: the "Drone War" allowing 2 AR.DRONE to compete for air supremacy, with virtual lasers and missiles!

AN OPPORTUNITY FOR VIDEO GAMES PUBLISHERS & DEVELOPERS

By registering on Ardrone.org, you will be able to download the SDK, buy a AR.DRONE flying kit and start developing great and innovative video games.

Thanks to the Open Game API we provide, your projects will change the way video games are played, both indoor and outdoor.

And remember, you will keep 100% of the revenue sales of your AR.DRONE compatible applications!

We look forward to working with you. Henri SEYDOUX, Parrot CEO

Or just a few electrically-activated blasting caps if your drone is on a suicide mission....... I’m glad I’m not assigned to VIP security.

Well, now that we know tarantulas can launch their hairs as weapons we’ll figure out how and make real nano anti-personnel missiles.

It’s battery-power for about 15 minutes of flight time so I think it’ll be very quiet!

I’m glad I’m not assigned to VIP security.

This would seem to be of more use to the VIP security than a threat. Pop it out sunroof of the lead SUV and get an overhead view of the crowd and check the rooftops. Then if things look clear you move the package into the building and recover the helicopter once everything is secure.

The developers are almost quaintly unaware of this, prattling on about 3-D and gaming applications. Security use was the first thing that popped into my mind.

Payload would be of major interest. A whole lot of trouble could be caused with a pound of semtex. This thing is highly maneuverable and presumably pretty quiet, being electric. 15 minute battery life would appear to be a drawback though.
