Worst Films of All Time?

Posted on 01/06/2010 9:42:42 AM PST by ctdonath2

In the spirit of the current thread "Best Films of all Time?", I just have to ask for the other end of the spectrum.

I don't mean "Night of the Lupus", "Attack of the Killer Tomatoes", or other standard bad/forgettable films. I don't mean just box-office flops. I want to see tour-de-force bad.

Yeah, it’s an “art/technical” film. But it didn’t presume to be otherwise.

Toys was wonderful! The visual surrealism of Henri Magritte (sp?) coupled with the bizarre humor of Robin Williams was great fun.

Sisters of Death - watched this while unable to sleep during a dysphasia (inability to swallow) episode in the early 90s. Surprise ending was just plain stupid.

The Thing With Two Heads - I believe this was a TV movie. Starred Roosevelt Grier and Ray Milland, not a great gig for either.

My offering is perhaps a subset of your category. The worst rendition of a book to movie that I've seen is Dune. At the time the movie first came out I'd read the book twice, once just weeks before I saw the movie and I was unable to follow the story in the movie. I think they've reedited and redone it, but I doubt it's much better.

You should try to watch the Dune mini-series that came out in 2000.

It was actually pretty good.

Ah yes, Highlander 2 - a movie so bad that its sequel actually started with an apology for its predecessor!

“A Thin Red Line” — what an abomination. Thirty minutes of looking up at the sky through some trees. *snores*

Oh, I forgot one thing: William Hurt was in it and he has to be the most over rated actor in history.

“The Fanatics” by producer Marc Lasky, starring Ed Asner, wins this one hands off. Did anyone other than me see this catastrophe?

Some will probably disagree but my nominee for "Worst-ever Picture" would be Paris Texas....endless walking across Texas' desert, story without purpose, hyped advertising, bad dialog, hashed up plot, bad acting, length is "buns-numbing", poor photography....and more.
