Do not make fun of “worm pickers”. It is an honorable, and enjoyable, hobby where I come from. I remember many summer nights, when I took my intended along with me, picking up night crawlers (yes, they do come out at night and many could be considered huge).

All that is required is a flashlight, and the necessary lawns to conduct the search upon. This leads to another problem, of course. How do you deal with being “rousted” by the cops on a fairly regular basis? Of course, you have a credible excuse when asked to account for yourself. All you have to do is show them your crawler can’s contents. After awhile the cops may show up, but they just wave at you and drive off. Ya’ gotta’ train ‘em! ;-)

Anyway, picking up worms is not even a job, it is a form of entertainment. I must disagree with the author. I rather doubt that O would deign to involve himself in the hobby. “Worm picking” is not the undertaking of an elitist.

Thanks for filling me in on the worms, sorry if I insulted your hobby :)

I did have a neighbor years ago that picked worms for a summer job, he claims to have made a fortune (for a 16 year old)
