I love to read about this time period. In fact, I am now reading a book about Mary, Queen of Scots, the daughter-in-law of Henry II. The whole situation of Henry, Diane, and Catherine de Medici was quite interesting.

I work for a company that sells gold leaf, in addition to other products. Only gold that is labeled as edible can be consumed. If it is not labeled as such it means that it is not pure and contains alloys that are poisonous. It is usually used to cover chocolates.

Maybe Diane was consuming a poor gold alloy?
