"Despite being two decades older than King Henry, de Poitiers was one of his favorites."

Remember James Bond “Goldfinger” movie and the great Shirley Bassey song with the very strong one-word opening line in her deep resonant voice.
“Gooooollld-Feengah!”
If they ever did this story as a movie, it could be “Gooold-Stomachkkkk!”
I know..... I'm sorry..... It was a long flight..... I'm tired!

I love to read about this time period. In fact, I am now reading a book about Mary, Queen of Scots, the daughter-in-law of Henry II. The whole situation of Henry, Diane, and Catherine de Medici was quite interesting.

Chemically inert, pretty much.
I’m not a medical expert; but I question the conclusion. Just like the whole Silicone breast implant fiasco, Silicone is inert, and gazillions of dollars were paid out to court cases that were decided by emotion and bad science, rather than scientific fact.
I don’t see how Gold could be a poison, unless it behaves like a Heavy Metal (ie mercury) and simply plugs up the system. If Gold is toxic, then there are liquours with gold flakes in them, on the market that are deadly - and I find that hard to believe.

No element is totally inert, not even the famously inert noble gasses. Gold is pretty inert, but it is also poisonous, just like lead, silver, mercury, arsenic, and most other metals.

Met Shirley Eaton (the girl in the pic who got “painted.”) a few years ago at a book fair in Mt.Doram, FL.
I realized she would be a “little” older, but, still, my ego was expecting a bit of a “hottie.”
She was 71, with VERY “English” teeth, totally gray hair, no makeup.... and said that unfortunately, she never even made it to the Fountainbleu Hotel in Miami. All her scenes were blue screened at a studio in England!
Dreams died that day. I felt sooooo old!
