My not so smart brother has 5 Beagles. And a small house to keep them in. I love my brother, but the way he thinks sometimes I find it hard to believe we share the same blood.

Miniatures poodles that still have their man-junk can be quite irritating. I mean, barking to warn me that someone is in my house can be very valuable indeed.
But barking to warn me that I am in my house is just ridiculous.

1. Beagle
My brother's got one of these - when he was a puppy my sister-in-law would take him for walks and he'd just plop down and fall asleep at her feet whenever she stopped. Very cute, but you'd never know he was so small if you went by his barking - sounds like he's using a megaphone.

My 15 year old Basenji uttered a single low “woof” once about 10 years ago.

We used to have a noisy dog on the block. Barked constantly when their owners left during the day. The barking would not stop. So someone started going over to their neighbors yard with treats and made friends with the dog.
Then one day, the person went over just after the owners left, attached a dog bark collar, and gave a treat. That afternoon, before the owners came home, more treats and remove the collar. At least that is what the grape vine is saying.
It only took about a week for the dog to stop barking constantly. Now it only barks with the other dogs in the neighborhood start up a chorus or a siren goes by.
I don’t know if it is true .... but I do know it is much nicer now than before.

My Dobe is loud - but he’s not outside where it would bother the neighbors. He doesn’t think people should be allowed to walk past HIS house and don’t even get him started if they happen to be walking their dogs - if so it’s ON!

Shetland Sheepdog. Sorry, we had one for 16 years living in a suburban NYC apartment. She was great at scaring off stranger who came into the first floor apartments back yard. Otherwise, she was as quiet as a mouse.
I can think of lots of small dogs that are far noisier than some of those on this list.
