Sorry for being late.
Here's the live thread...
It was based very loosely on the book, indeed, but the creator explicitly states that the book was the inspiration for the story. Fascism never arises from a violent overthrow of the government, it always arises when a people decide that the government needs to have control. It should be a wake up call to many who have decided that politicians can run their neighbors’ lives better than their neighbors can.
As stories try to get close to those core truths, they gain gravitas and power.
He hated soap operas because they represented everything that enduring stories weren't. Soap operas were trivial and comfortable...yet life is profound and terrifying!
"Humans are afraid to live and writers are afraid to tell the truth!"
Oh, those people are awake all right! And shredding the Constitution daily.
I was out this evening.. will have to watch it on HULU this week.. would you post the link & ping us when it is up?
How was the episode?
I saw 2012 this evening...
Sounds like a great professor.

I don't expect V to get there with the libs running Hollyweird. It's great to see the bits and pieces come through though. The empty speech by the leader of the V's with the wife of the dead pilot and how she was so easily turned to evil by touching the right emotion cords. Doesn't that just sound like 0. Empty speeches, lots of emotional appeal and all the while something else is going on behind the scenes.
If you are driven by greed, envy and self principles don't mean anything.
Good for plot develoment, hope ABC keeps the show around.
Didn’t know you were into Sci-Fi
BIG TIME sci fi & special effects fan.. see most big ones a couple times on big screen..too embarrassing to give exactly HOW many times
How was 2012?
Watch Episode 3 NOW (or whenever you’re ready) at:

Who is John May and why wasn’t the V double agent allowed to go back to earth to kill his partner?
What a hugh bore. There are maybe 120 cumulative seconds from each episode that I find interesting.
Kind of off the wall, but several years ago I went into a gallery and there was one print that kept dragging me back to it every time that I walked away. It was a print by artist Will Bullas (usually known for his silly stuff) that was a very serious portrait of an old Chinese man in traditional Chinese dress trying to stand up. This print was nothing like anything I had, or anything that went with my furnishings but I was so drawn to it in a very personal way (for no obvious reason) that I bought it.
After I had the print framed, I became so fascinated with it that I had to know it's history, particularly given that it was nothing like the artists' normal style, either. Turns out that it was a portrait of Will Bullas' friend, Wah Ming Chang, who was also an artist -- who had polio. Interestingly, Wah Ming Chang had been the art director for the original Star Trek, and had designed the tricorder, communicator (upon which modern flip phones are based) and even "the tribble" for the old series, plus a whole lot more.
Before I watched V tonight, I watched the latest Star Trek film on video. And then I looked over at the art print and thought, "Wow, even 40 years later, the legacy continues."
what a great story. There is a strange draw to art for some of us.. the energy is there even if we dont understand it fully at the time
I enjoyed 2012 & did NOT mind the length .. well over 2 hours..
The trailers at theater the past year have been big teases for me... and it did not disappoint with all the special effects & the concept was interesting. I had NOT read the synopsis of the film so did not know a lot of background & so it unfolded all fresh for me.
I am not a reader & so never have the problems of “the book was better”.. I like to be surprised in the cinema..
I know the “true conservatives” will poo poo this as a liberal swipe for global warming etc.. but I no longer let that bother me. I know most of the movies I enjoy are looked at with raised eyebrows here at FR.
Movies & my doggie walks daily are my escapes & I look forward to both
one thing you might consider is having an ongoing SEASON thread & just ping the people to the thread weekly. It is nice to see everyone’s comments from prior weeks.
This is how the 24 thread operated last few years. Just my opinion, others might feel differently.
It is nice to post things mid week (news articles, stuff re: stars etc. along the way) People can come & go
If you want to do that might put up next weeks & mention it will be the ONGOING thread. Make sure in opening you give some background perhaps.. characters, HULU links and the fastpast link perhaps.- tht someone else posted. I had never heard of it. the channel/network it is on is always good
Just my thoughts again as I like coming to a thread that has a little “meat” and pix in heading for interest.
Thanks for taking this on.. dolly
Since I didn’t watch Episode 3 on TV and haven’t watched the online video yet, I have no idea.
IIRC, next week's episode is the last one for this season...it is expected to restart in March of next year.
That said, if I do start an open thread for "V" in March, I will follow your excellent suggestions.
oh no.. just one more? crap.. just getting into it.
IN March I would be glad to help you with an HTML page set up that you can just copy & paste. You might already have the ability to do so, just offering my help if you would like it.
just watched the program with the link you posted. THank you. NIce just like Hulu — no commercials .. YEA.. that is what I dislike about TV in general
Interesting the way things are falling together
