Scott O'Konek shoots his bow 300 days a year, dreaming that someday in the woods somewhere in Minnesota a white-tailed buck of memorable proportions will stride beneath his tree stand.
For O'Konek, 29, dream and reality blurred last week at Camp Ripley when a 32-point buck -- bearing perhaps the largest non-typical rack ever taken by archery in Minnesota -- ambled toward him.
Forty-four yards from O'Konek's perch, the statuesque whitetail stood a moment, shaking snow from its back as leaden skies drizzled rain. This was about 9 a.m. during the first of two special Camp Ripley archery hunts.

if bowling is not a sport, how can sitting up in a stand and shooting down onto a feed trough be considered a sport.

For your list....
I have a picture from the Dad of the hunter that shows that he was able to spine this monster from 44 yards....
However, the picture is on the work computer.
If you’re interested, I’ll post the proof tomorrow.

I wonder what type bow this fellow used? A compound bow, a recurve, self bow? A great shot especially since the deer was starting to move away. Once in a lifetime deer.

sitting up in a stand and shooting down onto a feed trough be considered a sport. No "baiting" allowed for deer during any season in Minnesota.

They call that a "rack"? I call that a
brush pile! Pope & Young is going to be busy next year. A record buck was also taken in Wisc. this year.

The ‘guy’ in the story is the son of my close personal friend’s brother’s work mate.
I know, you may think it a stretch, but I have the original picture (from the day that it happened) with the spine shot on the work computer that I will produce in the AM......

Cool! If you think of it please give me a ping when you do.
I don't think thats a stretch at all. It seems like whenever a story like this is reported, someone I know or someone they know; knows the hunter involved (or their brother).
There are a lot of hunters up here but we seem to live in a small world together come fall.
