As an eternal fan of my beloved Atlanta Falcons who always found ways to lose and who drafted then traded* Bret Favre after his bench-warming rookie season, claiming that he "didn't fit our system" which was accurate, "our system" being carefully crafted to ensure just enough wins to avoid the dreaded grocery bag headgear made fashionable by Saint fans during seasons more forgettable than the current one, I cannot bring myself to pull for the Saints, bitter rivals that they are.

However, I will hope that the good and gentle folk of New Orleans and Louisiana are happy after the Super Bowl, they being among the best our nation has to offer (except for that deputy sheriff in St Landry Parish).

Good luck. I think that it may be necessary. :>)

* In exchange for Favre, my shrewd Falcons received Green Bay's pick (#19) in the first round of the 1992 NFL draft. We chose running back Tony Smith, Favre's former teammate at Southern Mississippi. Smith was with the Falcons for 3 years, his only three years in the league.

FOFLOL. I hear that!

Those fashionable brown bags weren't just plain old sacks, I'll have you know. :) They were personalized, the favorite said, The Aints.. Oh, sure, a few said, Have we lost yet? but they were rare. LOL The lowest point in the paper bag year, we helped make Joe Montana's star begin to shine. We were up 35 to 7 at the half and still managed to lose. LOL

Of those bad ole days, this tale is perhaps my favorite. It is repeated as a true story. Once, in the 70s-early 80s, when our beloved Archie was the quarterback, things in the organization were so tumultous, everyone and everything so transitory that in one game, right before the snap, Archie looked down the line of scrimmage and actually saw a wide receiver that he didn’t recognize. The guy introduced himself in the huddle. LOL
