Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Are you going ‘home’ for Christmas? I’m thinking of making some Garlic Cheese Grits with a Shrimp Sauce to go along with the Baked Ham and Roasted Sweet Taters I’m doing for Christmas Dinner. The future in-laws are joining us for the celebration, and I want to do some Southern US foods. We had some yummy Brazilian dishes when we joined them for Thanksgiving, along with the Turkey our son fried.
No plans to at this time... I’m trying to save up for new siding.
Sam’s a little better. He’s able to go out, but we have to make him go. He’s not eating, which bothers me. Doesn’t want the meds even in cheese or peanut butter. So we’re having to force them down. Fortunately, he’s good natured about that or you could call me Corin of the nine fingers...
He’s still pretty lethargic though. Not much movement unless we prompt him. That could possibly be the pain meds.
Oh yeah, siding is spendy. What are you going to use, hardboard, vinyl, wood or fiber cement? If we ever build new, or have to replace siding, we’ll probably go with fiber cement.
Have you tried Sam on white rice and boiled hamburger? I think the proportion is 2/3 rice to 1/3 hamburger. That’s what the vets had me feed Gypsy for a couple of weeks this summer when she was so sick.
As to getting the pills down, try braunsweiger or a cat food pate. Gypsy hasn’t eaten dog food since July, but she loves her cat food. Your vets may scream “it’s not good for dogs”, but it beats the alternative, which is Sam not eating.
There is a real disconnect between western medicine vets and eastern medicine vets on the whole food issue, and if we’d listened to our western medicine vets we’d have had to put Gypsy down in September. As it is now, she’s lively and alert, she plays with her toys and enjoys her walks. Her skin and coat look good. Both OB and I know that the situation could (and probably will) change in the blink of an eye, but as a pet owner, you know, you do the best you can for as long as you can.

I want the fiber cement.
5 day weekend ate my brain. meh
I second the recommendation for hamburger and rice... anything’s good to get him to eat some, poor old guy. If he likes it, you can make up a big batch and freeze some in portions, add it in to his regular food, or just feed the portions.

Yeah that pretty well covers this morning.
Thanks for the tip. Mrs. was on her way to the store so I told her to stock up. He ate a little better for her today and took his medicine in a sausage ball. Maybe he just thinks he can be more finicky about what he gets to eat.
He also asked to go out. First time in several days we haven’t just had to insist.
Great news about Sam! It’s always such a relief when the meds finally kick in and start knocking down that infection.

You know, I really like raptors. In the winter we get ‘em scoping out the bird feeders for unwary sparrows, though the coolest thing was the time I was walking Gypsy, heard a ‘thud’, looked into the street and a hawk had just taken down a mourning dove. The hawk proceeded to get a better grip on its prey and flew up on the grain elevator for its evening meal. Gyps and I looked at each other, like “wow, did you see that?”

Thanks. He’s doing much better. He even had his appetite back this morning.
Took him to the vet so they could shampoo him with the medicated shampoo. Too cold to bathe him outside and we couldn’t get him upstairs to the tub.
But the boy knows he’s not feeling well. For the first time ~ever~ he was resistant to go with them. He’s always been excited at the kennel or even the vet. This time I had to walk back with him because he didn’t want to leave me.

Yeah, I know what you mean. Gypsy is a real momma’s girl, and even though she has gone to the same groomer all time we’ve had her, it’s only been the last few times that she hasn’t howled as I walk out the door. It leaves a hollow feeling in the pit of your stomach, doesn’t it?
LSA
Yeah. I’ve had a couple of moments like that this week. But he’s never done that before. He’s definitely not his normal puppy self.
I thought I’d be more stoic about this...it’s not very dwarflike.
LOL! Is that cat channeling half the men in the world?
LSA
Looks like it!
