Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
Beautiful day - great for yardwerk. Jackson and Gypsygirl have been helping us, but it’s time for a bit of lunch and a cold gingerbeer.
As always, enlightening and enjoyable. I am still amazed that H&K considered GSG a threat. Glad to hear you got yours and for fifty bucks less; that’s enough for a couple of extra mags. I imagine those will be picked up by someone.
Congrats on taking up the challenge and getting the certs and permits in order. We hope to hear more about your journey through the maze of regs and come out the other end, packing. OB & LSA
Yardwerk....yeah.
Too bad it’s Sunday and they’re racing at Talladega!
Had the grill fired up....grilled up some some pork steaks with Jack Stack rub. Mmmmmm.....good eating!
The latest in renewable “green” energy?
Green kitteh.
dang, got dark early tonite, didn’t it. sigh.
Indeed. :-\ The time change makes it a little easier to drag oneself out of bed in the morning, but I hate driving home from work in the dark and all that.
The critters haven’t gotten used to new feeding times, either. Or waking times, for that matter. Halvah decided to bang cabinet doors at four this morning, new time.
I have the honor of knowing a fine young sergeant of Marines that is currently deployed to Afghanistan as a Scout Sniper... I’ll call him “T”... he’s like my kid brother...
2 weeks into the deployment, T was lightly wounded with a concussion. Last week, three weeks in country, one of the teams was hit by an IED... despite serious injuries and one KIA, the team performed with valor and teamwork... in particular, a Marine that had his lower jaw blown off continued to engage the enemy while the corpsman bandaged his face... then went on to carry stretchers with his wounded non-ambulatory brothers into the evac bird...
T reported this in an email that was calm, as if this was business as usual... gotta love the Corps...
I ask you to keep T, and his fellow snipers bathed in prayer... winmag is hooking them up with all sorts of real kewl toys... but they have asked for socks, knit and fleece caps, face wraps... and most of all, the prayers of those who love them... I trust the Hobbit Hole prayers warriors can be relied upon...
If you want names, or a mailing address, freepmail me...
Will do. All I can say is wow. And something not fit to print about those messing with our Afghanistan strategy.
2306. Ok start so far I guess.
Even though I'm just an old civilian, I know enough about his line of work to know that we taxpayers have provided him and his brothers the finest of weapons. It's just the little high-tech accessories they lack to make the job easier and more satisfying. I'm scrounging through my shooting tech-toys, upgrading as I go along, and putting a second care package of them together now.
As luck, and the Good Lord, would have it, this week was also productive in the area of cold steel. I picked up a couple of new items for evaluation, and it looks like we have a number of deserving Marines ready for them, along with all the cold-weather-comfort and poagie bait items I know you folks will send.
First, I came across two new sheath knives.
The top one is the "Afghan" by Ontario Cutlery. It's a big, heavy (20 ounces with sheath) knife built much like the Becker BK-2. Below it is the RAT Cutlery HEST (hostile environment survival tool). It weighs seven ounces with sheath, which has special MOLLE clips for attaching to a vest. It's intended more as a survival, prying, and cutting tool, rather than a weapon.
The other new piece of cold steel is a tomahawk, from a new company, Point Blank Cutlery. Again, it's a reduced size (and weight) tool. Here it is at 18 ounces, with sheath, compared to the 49 ounces for the massive (and deadly) GG&G tomahawk.
The kydex sheath, which is designed for mounting on a vest, has a lightning-fast draw, if you're a right-hander. The two points, and the entire top edge, is chisel-pointed. Overall, this tomahawk is about the size of an ice scraper, but I wouldn't use it on any windshields I cared about. Here's a better look at the two lightweight tools.
PBC adds a touch of class with a hand-tied lanyard, their own challenge coin, and micarta handles with alternating black and blue layers.
As things stand right now, I'm send g'nad one each of the Ontario Afghan, RAT H.E.S.T., and PBC tomahawk. He can evaluate each, and then pass them on as he sees fit. I will send four PBC tomahawks to Sgt T and his three shooters, for a start. He will also get the spare HEST, and the Ontario Afghan. I have to send Sgt T that one, because I already had his name laser-engraved on it. Oh well, a Marine can never have too many knives, even if they're not all carried at once.
Thanks for sharing bro. We’ll be praying.
God bless and protect them all.
Happy Birthday.
And thanks for all that you do.
Hey folks, a bit of Election eve jitters here in Virginia. We’re poised to make electoral history tomorrow. And with any luck New Jersey and NY-23 will be coming along with us.
Prayers and encouragement of any of your sane friends to vote tomorrow would be appreciated.
Change is coming. And this time, it’s a good thing.
Good stuff Mister Mag and Mister Nad!
Prayers are there.
With any luck...
