"I had an e-mail once about how much better the world was back before colored TV, when we had black and white sets. It was a good analysis."

My personal theory is that the more one's senses are "fed" or stimulated externally, the less engaged the mind needs to be, and one's mind atrophies. When you read a book, or listen to music your mind is forced to connect the dots and form its own images. With a sculpture or painting, one is forced to complete the story, allegory, context, etc. in addition to marveling at the technical prowess of the artist. Television/video imagery is "brain candy" and, apart from compelling subject matter, requires little, if any work on the part of one's mind...a color television even moreso than b&w.

Just my conjecture, mind you.

I agree, Joe. Computers are the same. It’s all mindlessness.

Well....now...that’s not quite what I meant. To the extent that computers are interactive, or can be used to research/read, they can be quite stimulating and engaging.

Yeah, esp. on Free republic, where your blood pressure can rise pretty fast, LOL. I got on Facebook a while back, too. And that’s interactive.

***My ex actually admitted to believing that prior to his first glimpse of a color TV.

Seriesly.***

years ago the Calvin and Hobbes cartoon had a that as a subject.

Calvin’s dad convinced him that before the 1940’s everything was in black and white.

Good observation, I would hate to have my doctor measure my blood pressure as I was reading some of the outrageous stuff the dems do and some of the comments made by trolls.

I hear you. I’ve had high blood pressure for years and it’s done a lot of damage to my body. I probably should take an extra pill when I come to FR, LOL.

They aren’t “painted”, they are tinted, we used to do it all the time before there was color film.

“Calvin’s dad convinced him that before the 1940’s everything was in black and white.”

I was there in the late 30s and 40s and of course everything was in black and white unless you messed with it!
