All the technologies and innovations related thereto are massive. Much of our modern life is the result of spin-offs from the Space Race. A new era of space exploration will bring further advances to those who participate.

We are in danger of losing way more than that. We are about to become a third world banana republic. When that happens, there won’t be any space exploration period.

Have you seen our debt and spending levels lately?

The nations that lead on the frontiers dicate the course of human history.

NASA need only a tiny amount compared to the rest of the federal budget.

“Have you seen our debt and spending levels lately?”

And all the spending seems to be going to things that do not create wealth. things like welfare and bank bailouts

NASA could do a lot with the $8 Billion given to Acorn.

Considering the mess we are in right now, the prudent thing to do would be to pull back on all spending, cut everything to the bone, and weather the coming storm. Then rebuild in 5 years or so. Things are gonna get worse before they get better.

That’s my opinion.

Have you seen what happens when you drop a large object from the top of a gravity well to the bottom?

Mankind is in dire need of a new style of coating for a fry pan. We must have an advancement of Teflon technology. A ‘Greasy Pan Czar’ should be appointed as well.

And if we stumble on the frontiers, other nations will happily charge into them.

We will be making a terribly foolish choice if we let that happen. The benefits of human spaceflight are manifold.

Again the nations that lead on the frontiers, dictate the course of human history. That is serious business as important as defending this nation. In fact it IS defending this nation.

Again, the amount is tiny compared to other spending. Plenty of other things to cut then America's future.

I think many Americans live in a state of blissful ignorance regarding the space program and think that since America has been to the moon already that all we need to do is pull some old rockets out of storage and we could go back in couple months. There is going to be a massive wakeup call the day China puts a man on the moon and the American Public wakes up and realizes that we have wasted a 50 year lead in the space race and, even worse, America couldn’t return to the moon for another 10 years at least.

You look at that chart and see a relatively small amount allocated to NASA. I look at that chart and see the HUGE amount allocated to the treasury department...includes servicing the debt. Seems to me the obvious thing to do would be to trim EVERY category down to the point where we have a surplus, and then use that surplus to whittle away at the debt.

In the long run, the good done by doing so will outweigh any good done by spending more on NASA.

Me too. I say we give walmart a huge tax incentive to open a store on the moon. They could sell moon rocks to millionaires. UPS(and FedEx) needs a mailbox on the moon too.
