Honestly I rarely even notice the logo style and I use google for my search engine.

Actually, I can make this interpretation quite easy.

The letter being beamed is an “O”.

An Unidentified Flying Saucer means that extraterrestials are flying around in UFOs.

It is a subtle way for Google to say Obama is an alien.

In all likelihood however, it’s probably just some new logo Google thought up.

I think it's odd that there is no usual explanation for the logo when you mouse-over. But then again, Google just might be having fun today.
