Nature vs Nurture, genes vs Jeans...Nisbett does say that Jews have higher IQâs than Gentiles, and that whites have higher IQâs than blacks, but his purely environmental explanations of these differences often beg questions. For example, Nisbett explains the superior IQ of Jews by citing the educational focus of Jewish culture, and he ascribes elevated visual-spatial ability among East Asians to a culture that emphasizes it. But where did these cultures come from? Nisbett never seriously considers that cultures themselves could have genetic origins. To all -- please ping me to other topics which are appropriate for the GGG list. |

Are you suggesting that the Chinese have a ‘chopsticks gene” which accounts for their cultural choice of food loader?
And the AnerInds must have had a ‘no wheel for industry gene” since they didn’t adapt the wheel for anything but Maya toys.
I think the cultural habits must have been more from the “monkey see, monkey do gene” that gives everyone the option of copying what they see.
If it works for enough people in the culture it becomes a standard because everyone starts to copy it.
All of which goes to prove I have no idea how these things become culturally engrained either.
