At the same time 2 per cent of people taking aspirin were hospitalised owing to gastrointestinal bleeding, a known side-effect of the drug, compared with 1.2 per cent of the placebo group.

A difference of 0.8 percentage points is statistically significant? Horsehockey! Having said that, the simple fact that aspirin thins the blood makes it a fairly logical conclusion that people would be more prone to bleeding. Why do we have to pay some bookworm millions of dollars to perform a study such as this?
