My subjects of interests are in history, militaria, religions/theologies, archeology,myths and legends and while I do not generally believe in the following subjects, for fun (and to maintain an open mind) I love reading about alternate/revisionist history (subjects like pre-Columbian transatlantic voyages, etc), crypto-zoology, UFOs and other Fortean happenings.

This incident is said to have inspired the plot (such as it was) for the "Blair Witch Project".

Interesting story. Assuming reports of no extra footprints are accurate, an avalanche may offer the best explanation.

With some of the party seriously injured if not killed by the avalanche, the remainder fearing a second avalanche fled the scene without proper clothing. With members of the party seriously injured, others panicked, became disoriented and rapidly succumbed to the elements.

Maybe an intial one sent everybody running, and a second killed the group sheltering in the ravine. The rest died of exposure.

But... avalanche that big would leave better clues. Full on bizarre, no doubt.

May have been bitten off. Wall of snow hits and forces a rapid exhalation causing the tongue to stick out followed by a second blow forcing the jaw to violently close and sever the tongue.
