Last week, Whole Foods CEO John Mackey wrote a gutsy and possibly ill-conceived op-ed piece in the Wall Street Journal. In The Whole Foods Alternative to ObamaCare, Mackey named Eight things we can do to improve health care without adding to the deficit. Sounds great, right? Well, yes and no.
By taking on ObamaCare and pushing for less government, Mackey may have risked harming his companys business by angering its traditionally left-leaning customer base. The blogosphere is having a field day amidst calls for boycotting Whole Foods:

My husband kept repeating during that interview... “what a nut!!”
It’s a greenie market with supposedly no artificial influence on their products. They do alot of local market selling as well. The left attacking this place is nuts.
And now I don't have to go in camouflage.
“And now I don’t have to go in camouflage.”
Do you mean that you kept your McGovern for President tee shirt from your youthful liberal days too? Wow...
Yeah, and he must have repeated that LIE about fifteen times.
It was disappointing that Greta and the other guest didn't call the guy on it.
Anybody who actually contributes to the economy should have absolutely no say about anything /s
Actually, I don’t feel too sorry for the Whole Foods people.
Their whole “schtick” was to advertise to liberal leftist hip college town people That set them apart from, say, Kroger. Now that crowd has turned on them.
Lie down w/ dogs, rise up with fleas.
I love Whole Foods! Even if I was the only car in the parking lot last year without an Obama sticker...
I shop at Whole Foods whenever I am in a place where they have one. I can’t wait for one to come to my city. Let the mooching libs go to Earth Fare and leave the better store for those who appreciate their quality and honesty!
I was also disappointed that Greta didn’t rip him a new one. Oh well.
Also, our homeschool group takes a field trip to WF every year. The person doing the tour is always very friendly, informative and opens up all kinds of things for the kids to try. They also always make pizza for the kids and give them dessert from the bakery -- all at no charge. They are great!
This is such a hoot. I never shopped at Whole Foods because I think it’s ridiculous to pay extra money and besides I like my plastic bags. But have clients who are so far left they have fallen off the face of the earth. Two of them are totally besides themselves because they can’t shop there because of the boycott and there is “absolutely nowhere else to buy groceries”. And this is in Houston, of all places. Last time I checked, we had at least a thousand grocery stores.
Anyone that isn’t a communist should take on obamnicare until it’s totally destroyed!
The left attacking this place is nuts....
Aren’t they anyway? ;)
I went to whole foods tonight and bought me some groceries because I heard of the boycott. :) I’m sure it works both ways... besides, most people have their head in the sand, especially in the cities. I doubt the hippies will give up their granola and hemp.
LOL!!! No kidding! But there is NOWHERE else to shop, right?!
I don't go to Whole Foods that often because I hate the thought of contributing my $$ to some hippie mecca; plus the nearest location is about an hour away from me. But I love any excuse to run down to Austin, and so I go to Whole Foods sometimes when I have other errands in the area. My favorite WF location is in a shopping center with The Container Store (best. store. on. earth.), REI, and RunTex (running store). That shopping center is MY mecca (offense to Allah intentional).
And yeah, they do give you paper bags, rather than plastic, at least in my experience. One time I even took my own cute little "shopping bag"...and forgot it was in my purse. So I still walked out with a paper bag. I guess Kermit was right: it ain't easy being green (so why bother?).
Love the Container Store, particularly at Christmas. Austin is too far west/left to go except to play golf! Stopped at WF in the City today and was going to pick up a few things as my part of the protest. Absolutely no where to park for blocks around. Libs boycott is really working!
So much for free speech. Funny, no one on the Left has to worry about that problem. Hell Warren Buffet endorsed Obama. Any retribution for him?
