Thank you all. I am going to be reading this all day! I hope I did not start any kind of flame war. Just trying to do what is best and practical.
We are waiting for the letter scheduling orientation. That will be when we can get more info on recommendations from the school. However, many of his peers are using the Macs. I am thinking that if it will be necessary down the road, I would rather get it now, instead of a PC now and then a Mac later. The money is an issue for me, but I have to look long term.

Apple offers good education discounts and you can also buy refurbished Macs with the same warranty as new for considerably less. Look for the close outs and refurb store at the lower left on the Appl. Store’s home page. The education store link is usually on the lower right.
