A former RBR test driver named Robert Doornbos (never heard of ‘im) claims Newey has signed with Aston-Martin for $100 mil (more than what 15 of the current crop of F1 drivers are being paid).
He also claims that Newey’s asking price was too dear for Ferrari, plus he wanted too much control over car design.
I could’ve told you the Scuderia was never going to let Newey run the shop his way, but knowing how to be the Honest Broker, how to balance the tug-of-war between aerodynamics and powerplant, is one of his most impactful skills. I think he intuitively understands what’s important and when better than anybody else in the bidness.
