This will be a general purpose thread for F1 news and pings that really don't require a thread of their own.
Sounds like Hamilton got screwed.

Texas, which may balance its budget by firing thousands of teachers, plans to commit $25 million in state funds to Formula One auto racing each year for a decade.
Four years after motorsports most popular series left the U.S., Texas investors including Clear Channel Communications Inc. co-founder B.J. Red McCombs are building a 3.4-mile (5.5-kilometer) track to bring the event to Austin. Comptroller Susan Combs has agreed to pay $25 million for races through 2022, a subsidy questioned by critics and lawmakers as the state cuts costs to close an estimated $15 billion two-year deficit.

Companies lay people off all the time and still advertise or have out of town meetings, etc. Just because a budget needs to be adjusted does not mean that all activities come to a halt. Organizations need to support activities and investments which may yield an increase in revenue or tax base in the future. Such an increase would yield additional jobs in the future, but in the short run sometimes tough choices need to be made to address decreased revenues.
the other race weekends fill them all up for 30 miles

A car that will look mighty familiar to car buffs, movie-goers and Steve McQueen fans is the 2011 raffle car for the International Motor Racing Research Center.
Its a 1967 Mustang, one-of-a-kind resto-mod built as a tribute to the famous Ford Highland Green Mustang driven by Steve McQueen in the 1968 blockbuster movie Bullitt.
The car is fitted with contemporary features such as four-wheel disc brakes, five-speed transmission, fully independent suspension and many other modern components that make it a truly exciting automobile that a lucky Research Center supporter will win.
The Bullitt Mustang is valued at $72,500.
We are really excited about this years raffle car as it gives people a once-in-a lifetime chance to win an incredible automobile while supporting the Center at the same time, Research Center President J.C. Argetsinger said.
We are certain that tickets for this years raffle will sell out quickly, and I encourage our supporters to purchase their tickets early, Director of Marketing and Development Jon McKnight said.
Tickets go on sale June 3rd, and only 2,500 will be sold. The drawing for the winning ticket will be Dec. 3 at noon at the Center. The prices are $60 each or two for $100.
I expect that tickets will be gone by Vintage Grand Prix weekend in September, McKnight said.
The winner need not be present to win, and McKnight reminds ticket purchasers that the winner is responsible for all taxes and fees associated with winning the car as well as transportation from Watkins Glen.
Tickets may be purchased at the Racing Research Center or on-line at www.racingarchives.org.

Indy 500 (American F-1) live thread.
Where is it?
i din't check the batteries in my film camera so had to use this...
and to top it all off... the Kid only did TWO FRIGGIN LAPS!
Smoke did much better in on his F1 trip out than Lewis did on his NASCAR rice...
NO TRACK RECORD TODAY... 8^(
nice....how did that F1 car sound in person?....been awhile for me
it sounded very close in the GOTT VER DAMN FOG TOOO(actually low clouds) and was a miracle it even came off at all
the echo of the single car on the track was wonderful and with the cool air it snapped pretty good btwn gears
Smoke had a much easier time after he got it rolling(stalled once then pushed away the second time) accelerating up the hill and through the esses as Lewis was never full throttle through there and it was his first time with straight cut gears
oh, yeah.. they ran THE LONG TRACK FOR BOTH CARS!!!
NASCAR NEVER uses the long track
but to answer your question again, it sounded that same sweet song you remember... 8^)
..sweet....it’s something special to hear a lone car....I remember being a Brands Hatch back in the early 70’s and hearing a lone Ferrari go through the corner of South Bank..up the hill Pilgrims Drop out towards Hawthone....then quiet...then pick him up again somewhere around Dingle Dell...into Sterlings...up through the gears and under the bridge at Clearings
AHHHHH memories....*smiles*...sweet sweet early 70’s Ferrari’s
a good slide show... (not mine) http://yfrog.com/kec0qjj
Thanks, watching now on Speed. It looks nasty. Got to remember that the F1 car has max down force, soften settings and real rain tires. This will be interesting with the Stock Car on wets.
