This will be a general purpose thread for F1 news and pings that really don't require a thread of their own.
anybody know why they don’t run electric turbos???
just watched a video the kid did wi two, once in series and once into a “Y” setup
instant revs/no lag
Formula 1 bringing Grand Prix to Hard Rock Stadium complex in Miami
Did you see Jimmy Johnson is driving in formula 1 now? He was a few laps down due to first lap incident and a spin early on, but looked pretty good the rest of the race- not spectacular, but pretty good for a rookie i thought?- kinda cool to see the nascar legend racign formula 1 now-
A few years back, I would have voted for the remarkable Laguna Seca Raceway near Monterey, but Cali is now totally toxic, so to heck with that notion.
I still don't know why F1 couldn't make a go of Indy, any wisdom to shed?
indy car?
i think it’s political... F1 politics that is
ah sorry- yes- indy- he just raced this weekend- first race i think it was- barber track
“I still don’t know why F1 couldn’t make a go of Indy, any wisdom to shed?”
Like Chode stated it’s likely political.
Bernie E used to stay in Chicago and fly in to the race in a helicopter — I guess the Indianapolis hotels were not good enough for him...
Then there was the last race (wasn’t it?) where only 6 cars competed due to tire issues on Bridgestone’s compound (I think). After that there was only ONE tire supplier.
“Did you see Jimmy Johnson is driving in formula 1 now?”
No.

That was 2005 but wasn't the last race..my wife and I went to the GP the following year and F1 pulled out all the stops trying to "make up" for the debacle of the previous year...close up with the drivers, simulators, a big party...
F1 raced one more year after that before Bernie and Tony George(?) split up over money.

Thank you. I appreciate it.
Funny thing I was offered two tickets to the 2005 race but had to turn them down (my Wife wanted me to go) but I had too much work to accomplish.
Happy I did not make the drive...
that’s it, i saw part of it... big change for his age
Yup! Glad he’s pursuing it though. He is o ly like 46 though, not too old, but reflexes do start diminishing a bit around that age, not much but a bit in some folks. Hope he stays safe. He probably won’t master the cars totally, but will be cool to watch him improve IF they give him enough time behind the wheel. His team mate said he hopes they wiltivhim at least until 2022 to try to I prove enough to remain on the team, His team mate also said Jimmy is one of the hardest working people he’s ever encountered when it comes to trying to improve, tireless, always pushing to learn, and said ‘no wonder he excelled at nascar” osohng close to that, which I thought were a nice comments.
Yeah yeah, we’ve sorted out my mistake, thanks for chiming in
46? 46 is over the hill for F1, but Indy he still has possibilities
There’s been a few I. F1 over 40, some over 50, some even became world Champs, and others were winners. But you’re right, not many. Reflexes do start dwindling a bit in 40s for some.
true, when i was a kid, but that was in the 50s/60’s and weren’t wearing a five# helmet while pulling 3-5G’s for 90mins...
like fighter pilots, it’s a young man’s game.

wow- didn’t realize there was that many- i thought there was just a couple-
like boxing, a young man’s sport— mostly- then along comes folks like George foreman, and a number of other ones, that prove they still pack a whollop in later life and can still compete with hte young fighters- but they are the exception-
so true
It’s cool.
This is a good thread and Chode is a good man.
Happy you are here!
