This will be a general purpose thread for F1 news and pings that really don't require a thread of their own.
Damn!!! Well, he is sure gonna take some gas the next time he shows his face at the office from the rest of the troops! (Driver error or a mechanical malf I wonder?)
i agree with the announcer, he prolly wasn’t expecting to see Mario or whoever was piloting the two seater putting along like that as he rounded the corner and lost it
Ill bet he doesnt want to be at The Monday Safety Meeting, he might be getting a better look at the side of life from below management than the view hes been used too.
Im betting if theres a Teenager in his house there wont be any lectures from Dad about driving for a while.

And when they got the Backup Pace Car out THEN...
They had to attach a Transponder before going forward to actually Starting the Race.
whoever was driving the 2-seater was dragging his feet, pacecar should have taken immediate action to pass

McLaren to IndyCar favorable for 2019
McLaren Racing CEO Zak Brown describes the chances of his team entering the IndyCar series next year as favorable.
Brown (pictured above) has openly admitted he is exploring the opportunity of McLaren entering the championship in a full-time capacity in the future, and recent months have seen an acceleration in plans that could result in an entry as early as 2019. After a visit to Detroit last weekend to hold further discussions, Brown had Michael Andretti with him on Friday and Saturday at the Canadian Grand Prix and admits a positive decision is looking more likely.
Were seriously considering IndyCar, Brown said. Weve been doing due diligence for quite some time. As stated before, if were going to get into other forms of motorsport which McLaren has a great history in we need to do it in a way that first and foremost doesnt compromise our Formula 1 activities or we wont consider it.
It needs to be commercially viable, something we feel we can be competitive in and fits our brand. It has to tick all of those boxes, not most of those boxes.
Were not done yet with our due diligence but its looking favorable, so we will take a decision in order to be prepared for 2019 sometime in the upcoming months. If were confident all four of those elements really tick those boxes then its something that we will probably move forward on, but were not done with the journey yet.
With Fernando Alonso racing for McLaren in last years Indianapolis 500, inevitably the Spaniard has been linked with a full-time IndyCar seat and Brown says conversations are ongoing about where he will race next year.
Were in talks with Fernando as he said it was about this time last year that we started having conversations. Hes been doing Formula 1 a long time, hes enjoying driving as much as he ever has. I think hes driving better than he ever has.
As hes mentioned I think hes a little frustrated with Formula 1 being, I think as he said, becoming more of a constructors championship than a drivers championship. He loves Formula 1, he loves World Endurance and Daytona, so hopefully we will keep Fernando in the McLaren environment in some way, shape or form.
Despite a difficult relationship with Honda in Formula 1 that came to an end last year, Brown insists an IndyCar partnership is not out of the question.
Yeah, theres two engine manufacturers, both who do an excellent job in IndyCar. Wed love to race with Honda again. They make great engines, they win a lot of races in IndyCar, so we wouldnt hesitate to race with Honda again if that was ultimately the direction we were headed in.
Weve spoken to both manufacturers in our process of exploring what we might want to do.

1970 Chinook F5000
This car, chassis number 01, was originally built for Mario Andretti to race in the F5000 series and was raced early in its history by George Eaton (Mario had decided to race for Lotus).
It has raced in many SCCA national events and finished 3rd in total points in the SCCA Northeast Division in 1972.
The car has a Ford Boss 302 V8 engine paired with a Hewland LG500 transmission.
Previous owners are the Fejer Brothers, Tony Narocki and Dennis Reed.
The 1970 Chinook F5000 will be on display at the Racing Research Center until Memorial Day. It is on loan courtesy of Mike Knittel who races it in HSR, SVRA and other historic racing events.
The McLaren road cars, almost all of them (P1, MP4-12C 650, LT750, 570) had the Tom Walkinshaw 3.8 L engine he designed for an Indy Racing League car. But Indy Racing League and Indy Car combined on the alcohol engine formula and the engine had no home. McLaren licensed the engine for their road cars and have only recently altered it for a 4.0L design for the 720S and Senna.
I am specing a 570S car right now.
I don’t know. In the US Continental Tire Series The 570 has become the 360 in the horsepower equalization. Something like the Senna will be so far above the rule HP limit for any series that I cannot see it qualifying. Maybe detuned for a LeMans GTLM car.
so it doesn’t meet LeMans spec either then?
they should have an OPEN spec class for super cars
I am guessing that a 675 LT is above the class specifications for Le Mams so a Senna would be way out of Spec. Even the P1 prototype cars are detuned from what they used to be.
North America Leads The Way For McLaren Sales
North America continued to be McLarens largest market, with 1,234 cars being delivered. This represents an increase of 8.3% over 2016, when the brand delivered 1,139 vehicles across the North American market.
McLaren is nurturing this strong growth in the States and Canada, with the announcement of additional and updated retail facilities in Montréal and Denver.
In 2017, McLaren also opened a new 7,500-square foot North American Regional Distribution Centre, the first centre of its kind distributing parts outside of the companys UK headquarters in Woking, Surrey.
Mike Flewitt, Chief Executive Officer of McLaren Automotive, was pleased with the figures from 2017, and said: Demand has been strong for McLaren Automotive across our product families in 2017, with interest particularly robust in our biggest market, North America.
