This will be a general purpose thread for F1 news and pings that really don't require a thread of their own.
I don’t know, if it doesn’t affect visibility, I think that might be a good solution. Seems like something could still come right in from on high, like happened in the Indycar race.

Ferrari Formula 1 driver Kimi Raikkonen has blamed faulty clutch positioning for his nightmare start at the Italian Grand Prix.
On the front row of the grid for the first time since the 2013 Chinese Grand Prix, Raikkonen failed to get off the line at Monza. The Finn finally got going in 20th and last, but conjured a recovery drive to take fifth come the checkered flag.
Explaining what unfolded, Raikkonen said: “It went into anti-stall when I let the first clutch go. As far I understand I did the correct thing, but we can see there’s a problem with the second clutch.
“It was not in the correct place. I’m pretty sure I put it correct as always. I don’t know.
“Whatever it was it triggered the anti-stall and after a few seconds I was in last place. I’ve not had anything like this before. Whatever the reason is, we have to make sure we understand it correctly 100 per cent, and if we need to make changes we do the right things.
“After that we did the best we could. I’m obviously quite disappointed. When you start in second place and end up last by the first corner it is not ideal. But the race was OK to finish fifth. The weekend was good apart from that issue.”
Team principal Maurizio Arrivabene suggested Raikkonen had “messed up a bit with the finger [on the clutch]”, but conceded that “making an accusation before I have the data is wrong.”
Ferrari started second and third on the grid, but only managed one podium finish with Sebastian Vettel’s runner-up spot.
“The glass is half full,” said Arrivabene. “Yesterday Kimi did a great qualifying and we were all pleased, but looking at the images on television it looks like he was struggling a bit, or messing a bit with the finger to follow the procedure.
“What I have to say, to be positive, is that yesterday he had a fantastic qualifying, and today, in the race from his position [last], he did very good overtaking and we are happy.
“Concerning Seb, second place here in Monza is an incredible result, even if we were hoping for a good start from both drivers to achieve a bit more, but we are quite happy. Of course the ideal situation would have been to see Kimi first into the first curve, with Vettel second or third. But we have to be happy. We have a driver who was second, and we are still second in the constructors’ championship. Fine.”
Trying to cypher out this anti stall thing. Guessing it senses if you let the clutch out too fast without enough throttle and goes into some sort of limp mode where it disconnects the transmission to stop the engine from stalling?
He’s getting older...it’s like those people that confuse brake and gas and drive into store fronts.
10 September 2015 Haas F1's Team Principal Guenther Steiner doubts that the outfit will sign an American driver for its maiden campaign in the sport next year.
Haas is set to announce one of its drivers before the end of September, with Ferrari reserve driver Esteban Gutiérrez believed to be the leading contender.
Haas' American roots has led to suggestions that the outfit could sign a driver from the country - such as GP2 race winner Alexander Rossi - but Steiner has dismissed such speculation.
"There is nobody out there at the moment," he told the Official F1 website when asked about potential American candidates.
"Yes, there are drivers in GP2 and Formula 3, but having a rookie in a new team that is difficult for both sides.
"The potential of such a partnership failing is pretty high. So at the moment we'd rather not be looking at that avenue, because you are also not helping an inexperienced driver - he could be burned in one season. We are new, so we need a known quantity in the team."
Steiner re-iterated his previous assertion that Haas' first driver should be revealed before the end of the month.
"I don't want to drop names at this time, but we're pretty confident that by the end of September we will announce at least one driver," he said.
"We are negotiating with two of them, but nothing is done. We are very close to some drivers - and at the end of September we will come forward."

So, whatever happened to CART? And did any of those guys ever try F1?
Paul Tracy, Nigel Mansell, Jimmy Vassar, Eddie Chever, Chip Ganassi, Gil de Ferren, Al Unser Jr, the Andretti boys, Rahal Racing, Penske Racing, Foyt Racing,
1993 I think.
You are not going to like this, but with Ferrari power (and hand holding) Hass has the ability to beat McLaren next year. Thus getting good drivers (with Ferrari input) is important. I would love to see Button move to Hass!
Mansell should have won the Indy 500 in 93.
He was leading but got jumped on a late restart.
On the scanner he was getting bad advice from Jim McGee about when to accelerate, and became much too careful.
this is the silly season so it's possible if he hasn't signed yet
Welcome! (Just to snag #2000 in this thread)
