I’m looking for a harmless explanation, but “resettlement” stumps me. Resettle who, from where to where, and why?
There isn’t a benign explanationThere isn’t a benign explanation. I don’t like the idea of our military doing something like that here, and I sure as hell am not comfortable with them doing anywhere else. Anyone trying to inter or “resettle” me or my fellow citizens is bound to find trouble.
Well, says “various locations”, so I guess that means at least more than one.
Now I admit I’ve heard some grumblings about Mexico. The biggest chunk of income to the Mexican government is oil, and supposedly receipts and production are dropping fast. A few analysts say it can end up meaning only one thing, that millions of Mexicans might just head north.
But a hypothetical like that doesn’t seem to me to be as “urgent” or “solid” as this ad does.
Almost sounds like they know we’re gonna get hit by a comet or something! (I know, I know, looney tunes material). No matter what, something more definite.
This story first popped up a few days ago; at the time I dismissed it as “just recruiting guards for Guantanamo or Leavenworth”.
Then I got to thinking about it some more, looked around a bit, and saw that guards at Gitmo and Abu Ghraib are either Regular Army or Army Reserve (in the case of Gitmo, that includes their Navy counterparts), not National Guard. I would imagine Leavenworth is Regular Army MPs, also.
Another possibility could be that the NG just realized all their existing folks in that MOS have gotten out to go to work for civilian prisons, but, using California as an example, I don’t think they’re hiring a whole lot these days.
I’m not having a whole lot of luck coming up with a “harmless” explanation.
That would suggest there’s not one.
The question, then, remains.
