The cop tried repeatedly to tell Gates his name but Gates kept shouting over him. After reading teh police report I don’t know if Gates should have been arrested, I just know Obama as president shouldn’t have put both feet into this mess.
This also is an elitism issue, the “stupid” police vs the Harvard “genius”.

Sgt. Crowley said there are phone calls and his radio call with gates screaming that will be coming out. Oh, the Globe removed the Police Report because it makes gates look like the pompous ass that he is.
The smart thing for the cop to do would have been walk away, but Gates baited him into the arrest. He probably wanted to get arrested. I don’t blame the cop, after all, how long do you have to have somebody yelling RACIST in your face before you get mad?
