None of my kids had their tonsils out. They used to remove tonsils almost for any serious sore throat. Then they discovered that tonsils have a function - - they absorb dangerous radiation that might otherwise harm the body - - and decided there needed to be stricter criteria than a sore throat for removing tonsils.
