None of my kids had their tonsils out. They used to remove tonsils almost for any serious sore throat. Then they discovered that tonsils have a function - - they absorb dangerous radiation that might otherwise harm the body - - and decided there needed to be stricter criteria than a sore throat for removing tonsils.

My son now 46, had his tonsils out when he was 2 years old. He was so sick with infected tonsils that between the age of 18 months and 2 years 2 months he lost a pound and a half of body weight. That is a sick baby. he never had another sore throat until he started school and then not often.

My daughter at age 26 had a constant or reoccurring infection in her tonsils that continued for almost a year before they removed her tonsils. I think both of those surgeries were warranted.
