I saw Children of Earth and if it isn't a Hallmark card for anti-police state I don't know what is. I kept thinking that had the citizens had a right to arms there would have been a large bunch of dead jack booted thugs.

I kept saying to myself "How do you like you nanny police state now?" during several key pivotal scenes.

Also the politicians rationalizing a 10% loss and trying to spin it was very much a a biting commentary of the how socialism tries to justify the looses as a means to it's ends.

Nice review, wish you could do a breakdown of all of the themes of Children of Earth..

*raises hand* Doctor Who geek right here...Torchwood is pretty good. Can't say I like David Tennant or the way Russel T. Davies has taken the new incarnation of the show but the next season might be better...

I grew up watching Baker and Davidson but I also like Pertwee

Dr. Who was very anti-gun. In one show Doctor Who says to a soldier “Get away from me, you have a gun. I don’t trust people with guns.”

Plus, every time one of his allies tried to use a weapon to fight an alien, he would rebuke them, then just trick the bad guys into leaving, or he’d use his sonic screwdriver to defeat them.

Enjoyable series but very, very liberal.

And Captain Jack of Torchwood is a bi-sexual who kissed a guy in one show and tried to seduce another guy in another show, ‘til Doctor Who told him to knock it off.

I like Torchwood. Good Scifi series. Only warning: Lots of bisexualism/homosexualism.

That alone might turn off a lot of FReepers.

No spoilers please - Children of the Earth doesn’t air in the USA until next week!

Oh, and disclaimer for FReepers: Torchwood does contain bisexual characters and gratuitous sexuality and violence, so if that kind of stuff easily offends you, stay away. Otherwise, enjoy, it’s fun in a campy B-movie kind of way.

We are huge Dr. Who and Torchwood fans! We are anxiously awaiting the U.S. showing of this series, slated to begin next Monday, July 20.

Too bad it’s also the gayest show on TV.

Watched it until the increasing amount of gay content became too much.

The creator of both New Doctor Who and Torchwood, Russell T Davies, is a militant gay activist who takes potshots at Bush in his episodes. See the Doctor Who episodes like “Aliens of London” or “Christmas Invasion”.

Torchwood is quit possible the best show on TV. Captain Jack is ruthless in defense of the planet.

The problem with Torchwood, and yes I am a regular watcher of the program, is that its a homosexual propagandist piece. Nearly every character is sexually confused or flat out homosexual, even bit players that appear one time for no more than 5 seconds on screen in one episode get portrayed as homosexual or lesbian as often as not.

Short of that, its an OK show I'd say its typically slightly above average, and every so often one of its episodes shows what it could be. I has the potential to be great, but far more often it falls just shy of that.

It is part of the Doctor Who universe, but really only as a tertiary player. The main character in Torchwood was introduced through Doctor Who, and the characters criss cross occasionally, but don't confuse Torchwood with Dr. Who. Dr. Who is a spectacular series (Though it often sneaks in pro homosexual propaganda as well, though definitely not as in your face as Torchwood).. Torchwood is a decent series, with occasional glimpses of how could it could be.

If you like gay sex TV shows then Torchwood is your show. Like many Brit shows they are fixated on homosexuality.

Did you like the openly and blatant pro-homosexual scenes? Pretty sick in my book.
