The artillery is not being removed from the field, it is being moved to higher ground which affords greater flexibility and destructive firepower onto the enemy lines.

It's not the return fire from the enemy lines that Palin will have to watch out for. It's the attacks from behind by members of her own party that will keep her from the White House.

I’m so disgusted with the GOP. I am so close to jumping on the 3rd party bandwagon, although I know that’s a dangerous gambit, and I’ve always advocated against it. I just hate what the “leadership” in the GOP is doing...This is as bad as when I was a kid living in the deep South and I realized even though there were plenty of conservative democrats left in those days, the party leadership had moved way to the left...I feel abandoned again...and the GOP elite biting at Palin just makes that feeling worse...

It would be very surprising if Sarah Palin actually aspired to run for President. She is not positioning herself for such a run, IMHO, she is clearing the deck to help actual conservatives take back the House and Senate, if the Pubby leadership has the good sense to allow her the visibility in individual campaigns.
