A six-year-old Fort Lauderdale girl is recovering recovering in the hospital after becoming the victim of a pit bull attack.

The child was learning to ride a bike in front of her Fort Lauderdale home on Thursday when she was attacked by her neighbor's dog which had escaped through a hole in the fence.

A good Samaritan saw it happen and helped pry the pit bull's teeth off the child.

According to her grandfather Kenneth Smith, his granddaughter suffered puncture wounds to her back and leg. She is being treated for her injuries at Broward General Medical Center.

Animal Control officials picked up the pit bull late Thursday night. It's not known if the dog will be euthanized.

I was visiting Costa Rica when a pit bull there attacked a girl about the same age. The dog also went for the back of the leg and the buttocks.

The girl died.

Freepers showing up to blame the firearm dog breed for the criminal behavior irresponsibility of the human owner and doing so without crucial evidence in 5...4...3...2...1...

Dramatic, bloody anecdotes trump facts and logic any day of the week. Purveyors of agitprop have known this from time immemorial.

Pit Bull = firearm?

No.

Pit Bull = firearm?

Sure! I can’t keep my Glock 21 on a leash, and my AK’s and AR’s are constantly digging their way out from their pen...

Too bad for the little girl, but she probably provoked it. As we all know, pitbulls are naturally peaceful and gentle. I once knew a pitbull wrote poetry and spent hours just appreciating the beauty of nature.

We read every day about a child getting his or her flesh ripped off their bones by a pitbull. Naturally, we as pitbull owners are puzzled when an aggressive child provokes a pitbull this way.

We are often quoted in the papers, and always claim that, “My pitbull is never aggressive. I’m shocked! Shocked I tell you!”

Oh, sure, there are many other breeds, and little Tiffany sure does scream when Fido rips the scalp off her skull, but we must put the feelings of pitbull owners first.

The deaths of so many children is a small price to continue the special bond between the pitbull and his owner.

LOL nice post. You should keep that handy for the numerous other “Pit Bull” attack stories that get posted by a couple of people.

Funny to note how the dog is mentioned as a “dog” then later into the article it says “Pit Bull”. Leads me to believe it isn’t a Pit.

Same way they would take down a larger animal. Disables the victim so they can go for the kill.
