SHAME ON FOX NEWS! ENOUGH ALREADY!!!!
06-25-09 | MJ Rackley

Posted on 06/25/2009 4:39:41 PM PDT by nfldgirl

Okay...if I'm off-base, then flame me. But DH and I are fuming this evening to come home from work to learn that Fox News spent the 6-7 PM NEWS hour with Shep Smith crying over Michael Jackson. UN-FRICKIN-BELIEVABLE! There is so much crap going on in this country, the world, the economy, 10% unemployment, Congress/Obama getting ready to shove cap-n-trade down our throats, he and the big-she having a laeuiu at the Whie House...what in the hell is going on! The whole damn world is in fire! I'm so ticked off to not hear the Bret Baer news hour....what a frickin joke on the part of Fox News! And they want to be taken seriously?! Geesh! Enough already!

"Elvis impersonators"

I was never an Elvis fan, but at least he had a mature voice, and some of his recordings are worth listening too. His early ones at any rate. However what is worth remembering about Jackson's musical output? Importance based on amount of records sold holds no currency with me considering the millions of rap and other garbage records sold. I guess his stage show was alright (for people who like that sort of thing), but his musical "legacy" was mostly aimed at pre-teen and early adolescents and is mostly forgettable.

"buffoons"

FOX revealed itself as far more entertainment than news years ago when it would cut from some newsworthy event to a car chase. Ratings still trump everything else in the news biz. That's why I'm on the internet. And once again, thanks for the rant. That's the most entertaining rant I've read about this subject so far.

"tabloid entertainment"

A few years ago I actually switched the channel to CNN for crying out loud to get coverage on some actually important world event while FOX was covering a car chase or some other trivial thing.

"wouldn't walk across the street"

You and me both pal. His appeal was totally lost on me and my friends. We regarded him as a kid entertainer not much above the Osmond Bros for musical quality...even after he left his bros.

Yes, but this is the thread for people like us who never liked Jackson and a chance to rip Jackson and that FOX crybaby Shep Smith who has lost almost total validity based on his pathetic performance last night.

"icons that transcend"

Really? How did he transcend anything? I never got Michael Jackson. I mean, was he your favorite entertainer, and if so, why? Because neither me nor any of my friends liked him or ever talked about him except lately to remark about what a freak he became.

I have to agree with you. After the local Fox channel and FOX news non-stop coverage, I finally gave up and switched over to cable shows. MJ has now officially been elevated to sainthood status.

How narcissistic are you? Maybe YOU didn't get him..but millions and millions did. Why do you feel a need to even debate this. He wasn't my favorite, not by a longshot, but I can appreciate his talent and his mark on music and pop culture.

Why is everyone so surprised by the way the news is handling this? There are certain celebrities that demand this kind of attention, and it isn't always for their artistic legacy. Jackson was a character...I thank God for characters...the world would be a much darker place without them.

Bah humbug to all of you who didn't care about him, but come on all the threads to make sure we know you don't care.

I’m not narcissistic at all. How arrogant are you to call a middling talent like Jackson trancendental? See, I can trade insults as easily as you can, but that will get us nowhere. I asked you a simple question: what is transcendental about Jackson? You might have liked him, but in twenty years no one will be playing his music. He’s never written one song that can be ranked with the greats. He was an entertainer (and a freak), and if you liked him, that’s fine. But don’t make him out to be this great musical talent that everybody loved. I guarantee you there are tens of millions of Americans who didn’t.

My only response to the likes of you is that Michael Jackson recently sold out 50 concerts in a matter of MINUTES. I understand you were not one of the ticket buyers, but millions and millions of people around the world respected Jackson's talents. I GET IT..you didn't.

I don't know if you followed music in the 70's and 80's, but the Jackson 5, and then Michael Jackson alone consistently drove the sound. So why don't you allow the Jackson lovers to have their mourning period.

Last week, a great musical talent, Kenny Rankin, passed away. I followed him for years, and he was a large part of my teenage to adult years. I felt more when I heard that than I did when I heard about Michael Jackson. Therefore, I can understand how people feel about Jackson. We feel the way we feel. Why do you think YOUR feelings supercede everyone else's? That IS the definition of arrogance.

FOX News has become more and more buffoon-like recently.

I am boycotting FOX this weekend, and maybe forever until they get off this pop culture shtick.

They should call themselve “Fox Entertainment (and a little news) Network” until further notice.

So, the Grim Reaper is coming for all their pop idols?

Baby Boomers like Hannity must be in a cold sweat over this.

Obama set a record for most votes in a prez election and is loved by BILLIONS!!! around the world. I guess that makes him superior to Ronald Reagan doesn’t it? I don’t think my feelings supercede’s anybody elses, but you still haven’t answered my question about the transcendality of Jackson.

What is wrong with you? is this really that important to you? Every generation has a performer that defines that generation. For many of an age, that person is Jackson...Jackson changed the way music is viewed...for better or worse...he defined the music video...he brought choreography into live performances...his dancing spurred a thousand crazes...I KNOW YOU DON'T LIKE HIM...but he had an effect on pop culture, and for that, he transcends and will go down in history.

I'm not going to debate this with you anymore...I am right. I suggest you turn your TV off for a few days since the coverage is so offensive to you.

I don’t drink...but thank you. I’m not the least bit upset...you were. So you can have two drinks..one for me! Now, let’s get back to what’s important and kill that cap & trade bill and go after those RINO’s who are voting and/or thinking about voting for that wretched bill.
